GUAITIL CERAMIC POTTERY

Guaitil Village is renowned for its master artisans from the indigenous Chorotega community, celebrated for crafting exquisite clay pottery. They use the same materials, colors, and techniques as their ancestors did centuries ago.

The Chorotega are thought to have migrated to Costa Rica from the north after conflicts with the Aztecs and Mayans, from whom they adopted pottery-making techniques.

This tour provides a comprehensive explanation of the pottery-making process, from start to finish. It begins with sand, clay, and colored stones, and continues through shaping, polishing, decorating, and firing. The skill and dedication required to create these unique items are truly remarkable. Visitors will have the chance to purchase pots and other souvenirs directly from the artisans.
