We’ll then hop into the van for a 40-minute drive to Xoxocotlan, where the Salgados family will warmly welcome us to their silver jewelry workshop. For over three generations, the Salgados have elevated Oaxacan jewelry design to a national level. They will offer insight into their creative process, with the option to assist in designing and crafting your own custom pieces.
- San Martin Tilcajete - From Xoxo, we will continue to San Martin Tilcajete, where we will visit the only workshop in Oaxaca led by women who craft Alebrijes (carved and painted wooden animals). They will explain and demonstrate the process, enlightening us on the significance of being a woman in a predominantly male-dominated creative field. In the same town, we will stop at “Del Comal a la Mesa,” a traditional eatery set in a garden surrounded by lush plants and trees. Enjoy memelitas and quesadillas, along with meat and vegetable platters.
- Ocotlan de Morelos - Our final stop of the day is just a few minutes away in the town of Ocotlan, where a master hat maker awaits us. Here, we will learn the art of hat making and have the opportunity to find a sombrero that suits you perfectly, one that will last a lifetime. If you don’t find one among the hundreds available, you can have one custom-made in your preferred style.
