- Cerro Gordo Trailhead (Dale Ball Trails) - You will hike with an expert naturalist through the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve in a loop of approximately 2 miles and 200 feet of elevation gain. During the hike you will learn about the ecology of the high arid southwest and the importance of riparian areas such as Santa Fe Canyon. We will identify plants and learn about their life histories. We will search for birds, stopping to observe any we find, and learning about their lives. We will learn about the history and importance of the Santa River and its watershed. What we see varies by season and day, guaranteeing that every trip is unique and a surprise.

A Great Experience - We had a wonderful time. Ben was knowledgeable, gracious and friendly. We learned everything about the area, i.e. history, geology, flora, fauna etc. He even gave us suggestions for other places to visit. We would definitely recommend this excursion for anyone who wants to explore the area and gain insights.

Highly Recommended Knowledgeable Guide - Ben gave us an outstanding introduction to Santa Fe's flora, fauna, topography, and water history. The background he gave us enabled us to enjoy the recommended hiking experiences on the following days. Ben is an experienced naturalist with an extensive background in guiding. He is fun, personable and a great communicator.

Great Birding and Nature Experience - Ben was a wonderful guide. The communication before the tour date was detailed, specific, and very helpful. I was the only one so I had a solo tour with Ben. He was knowledgeable about birds, nature, and history, and was a very interesting person to talk to. We saw alot of birds and it was a wonderful day. He was also helpful in suggesting things for me to do and see in Santa Fe and New Mexico. I highly recommend Ben if you want a real naturalist guide!
