Catching Waves and Making Memories in Cabo Verde
Drawn by the allure of Cabo Verde’s waves and the promise of expert instruction, I embarked on a surf adventure in Santa Maria. Join me as I recount the sun-soaked days spent riding waves and capturing memories.
The Warm Welcome of Cabo Verde
Arriving in Santa Maria, I was immediately enveloped by the warm, inviting atmosphere that seems to permeate every corner of this vibrant beach town. The sun was shining, the ocean was a mesmerizing shade of blue, and the air was filled with the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore. It was the perfect setting for a surf lesson, and I was eager to dive in.
Having spent years chasing waves across Central America, I was no stranger to surf schools. But there was something about the Cabo Verde Surf Lessons that caught my attention. Maybe it was the glowing reviews or the promise of qualified instructors who knew the local waters like the back of their hand. Whatever it was, I knew I had to experience it for myself.
From the moment I arrived at Surf Hub, I was greeted with smiles and a laid-back vibe that made me feel right at home. Amy, the coordinator, was a breath of fresh air, her proactive communication ensuring that everything was perfectly aligned with the day’s conditions. When the waves weren’t cooperating, she was quick to reschedule, always keeping us in the loop. It was clear that this was a team that truly cared about their students’ experiences.
Riding the Waves at Monte Leone
Our first lesson took place at Monte Leone, a spot known for its consistent waves and stunning scenery. Jardell and Edwin, our instructors for the day, were not only skilled surfers but also excellent teachers. They broke down the basics with patience and enthusiasm, making sure we felt comfortable before heading into the water.
As someone who’s spent countless hours analyzing wave conditions and perfecting my technique, I was impressed by their ability to tailor the lesson to each individual’s skill level. It wasn’t long before I was up on the board, riding the waves with a newfound sense of freedom. The feeling of catching that first wave is something that never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve done it before.
The camaraderie among the group was infectious, and by the end of the lesson, we were all cheering each other on, celebrating every small victory. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with surfing in the first place – the sense of community and the pure joy of being in the ocean.
Capturing Memories in Santa Maria
The next day, we headed to Santa Maria, where the waves were even more inviting. The sun was shining, and the water was a perfect temperature, making it an ideal day for surfing. Our instructor for the day was just as friendly and knowledgeable as the others, guiding us through the session with ease.
After the lesson, a local photographer approached us, offering to capture the day’s adventures. It was a fun, impromptu photoshoot that resulted in some incredible shots of me and my fellow surfers, including a few with my twin brother who had joined me for the trip. These photos are now cherished mementos of an unforgettable experience.
Reflecting on my time at Surf Hub, I can’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to connect with such passionate and dedicated individuals. Amy and her team went above and beyond to ensure that every moment was memorable, and I left Cabo Verde with a renewed love for surfing and a promise to return. If you’re ever in Santa Maria, I highly recommend stopping by Surf Hub for a lesson – you won’t regret it.
