Highlights

After your hotel pickup from Santiago, relax on the 30-minute drive south of the city to Concha y Toro winery, located in the Maipo Valley winemaking region.

As you pass through the grand entrance, marvel at the beautifully landscaped grounds of the winery, which was founded in 1883. Meet your winery guide and group, and start your winery tour in the gardens next to Casona, the former summer home of the Concha y Toro family. Then, head into the old Pirque vineyards to learn about the winery’s techniques for growing and maintaining the vines.

Hear about the master vineyard keepers who keep a close watch on the vines all year long, and then listen to stories about the winery’s long history as you enjoy the wonderful view of the Maipo Valley from the winery terrace.

Next, enjoy a tasting of Casillero del Diablo, a carmenere varietal (a grape originally from Bordeaux) that’s one of the best-known Chilean wines in the world, and then descend into the winery’s underground cellar, also called Casillero del Diablo (the Devil’s Cellar). Hear the fascinating tale about Concha y Toro’s founder, Don Melchor de Santiago Concha y Toro, who told the public back in the late 1800s that the devil lived in the cellar to keep them away from his private collection of wine. Thus, the legend of Casillero del Diablo was born.

End your tour at the wine bar for a wine tasting. If you select the wine-only option, sample two wines from the flagship Casillero del Diablo label. Or, select the wine-and-cheese pairing option, which includes four wines from Marques de Casa Concha, a premium label, accompanied by gourmet cheese.

Before heading back to Santiago, browse the wine shop for books, souvenirs and, of course, bottles of wine to take home.

Best vineyard in Santiago - This is the best vineyard in Santiago. We are English speakers. There are only 4 premium (70 minutes and 3 wine tasting sessions) English tours a day. Email them for time slots as it may change. Tips: book with the winery directly and use Uber to get there. It is both cheaper and time efficient. You use up most of your 4 hours on travelling by coach if you use agency as they will need to pick up guests from different parts of the city.

Simply Breathtaking - Our guide, Daniel was incredible. Extremely knowledgeable about Chilean wine and where to go and what to do while in the city. The tour was incredible and had a lot more included that I had originally thought. The view is breathtaking and it was the perfect half day get a way for a wine tour in Santiago! If i could give 10 stars, I would.

Excellent - Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommended doing the additional cheese and wine parting with a sommelier that was well worth it.

Wine and cheese experience - It was a lengthy drive (over an hour) to get there, so I hoped it would be worth it. It was worth it, in large part because our guide, Paulo, was both knowledgeable and hilarious. He made the tour. After he gave us a tour of the winery and introduced us to 5 wines, we had a second tasting with 4 more, along with cheese and snacks, with the winery's "expert."

Wine tour and tasting with souvenir wine glasses - The hour tour was interesting and ended with an opportunity to taste three wines. The souvenir wine glass was a nice touch. My only complaint is the private vehicle used for this tour was dirty and smelled of smoke.

Okay experience - I went with a group for the tour. The second stop was the tastings. The wines were good but the ones I like require to store for 11 to 15 years. We also did not try the best wines that included the diablo portion. I did like the origins of the diablo. This should have occurred before doing wine tasting.

Concha del Toro Winery - I expected more from such a famous winery. We were in a group with a pregnant woman and not a glass of water was served, not for her or the children. Inattention from employees when purchasing wines. The garden is truly magnificent and the guide was very well trained, but for the price of the tour you can find beautiful wineries with dinner options at very similar prices.
