  • Dunes of Baní - Looking for things to do in Dominican Rpublic? Ready to explore the Dominican desert and its sand dunes, salt ponds and coral reefs?

We depart at 6:30am (Pickup might start up to 30 minutes before), take a 2-hour road trip to Salinas, with some stops on the way.

Our first stop is for an authentic Dominican breakfast at a local place. After that, we visit the sand dunes and spend some time learning about them, taking pictures, and of course, sandboarding. I’m not a certified instructor, we’re just having fun. No experience required.

After having fun at the dunes, we walk through the salt mines and its pink lakes, where we see the salt process and workers taking salt out of the lakes.

Our last attraction is playa El Derrumbao, where we are going to do some snorkeling. To get there, we take a 20 minute walk (one way) under the hot sun. We walk into the beach with urchins and grab the goggles to watch the coral reefs and fish underwater. It’s beautiful!

Then, we walk back and change clothes by the car. There’s no dressing room, Then we go back to the same local place for some authentic Dominican lunch. After lunch, we return to Santo Domingo, happy and tired at around 5pm.

Great time! - The tour is super fun. You get a nice local breakfast, go sandboarding with great views, snorkel in clear waters and finish with a big lunch. Guide was very friendly and looked after us.

Sand Surf, Sea, and Salt - unique excursion from Santo Domingo - We had a great day exploring this Peninsula area of the Dominican Republic. Ronnie picked us up at 6am from our Airbnb and we had about an hour and a half drive outside the city (nap time) before arriving at our first stop in Bani. We learned about the area and received an overview of the rest of the day. We had breakfast at a local breakfast. This was a great opportunity to ensure you're eating authentic, delicious Dominican food. We then went to the Sand Dunes! After a sweeping view of the area, we headed to the slopes. Ronnie demonstrated and give tips on how to do the standing and the sitting boards. Both were very fun! Ronnie took great pictures and videos of us. Memories for us to show family and friends at home. We then went to see the Salt Mine. It's still operational and was interesting to learn more about. Gorgeous views. Lastly, we walked to the beach for snorkeling! The conditions were clear and we saw beautiful fish and coral. The water was refreshing after hours in the sun. We changed back at the car before heading back to the same local restaurant for lunch. This was an action packed, unique day trip that I highly recommend! We learned a lot about the culture of the Dominican Republic from our knowledgeable guide. For this day trip, I would recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, a dry change of clothes and towel, and I wore a sun shirt (long sleeve, light weight) because I burn easily and we were in the exposed sun for awhile.

Snorkeling & sand surfing in Dominican Republic - After an amazing hiking excursion with Ronnie on our second day in Dominican (Hiking Tabernacle Thundering Waterfall) we signed up last minute for the sand dunes & snorkeling expedition! We had a great time on this trip as well, including trying local cuisine and learning about the history of the town of Baní and salt mines in Dominican Republic. The sand dunes were beautiful, overlooking the ocean and the slopes were steep, perfect for sand boarding & surfing. The snorkeling expedition was beautiful. Some of the most beautiful coral I’ve seen in the Caribbean. And the fish for lunch was fresh and very filling! Highly recommend this trip if you’re looking for further adventure in Dominican Republic.
