Once you travel to the urban area, Berat Castle which has history traced back to the 4th century BC, awaits you. At this site you’ll learn about the three invasions Berat faced from the Ottomans, Romans, and Bulgarians. As history followed, it later grew into a major principality governed by the Albanian noble Muzaka family in the 14th century. Count the castle among the most awe-inspiring attractions in the city. Notably, it is among the most populated Castles, hosting many Byzantine churches, alongside a few mosques built during the Ottoman period starting in 1417. A stroll through the castle leads us to the Onufri Museum, housed inside the
“Assumption of Saint Mary” Cathedral, refurbished during the 18th century. Next, you’ll witness the old segments of Mangalem and Gorica. They are linked by the grand Gorica Bridge which arches over the Osumi River. Both regions boast their respective historic architecture and unique housing shapes.
