Highlights
  • Benja Thermal Baths - The Vjosa River traverses the entire valley and eventually splits into the Langarica River, which flows through a canyon of the same name. The caves within Langarica Canyon are truly spectacular! Warm waters merge with Langarica’s stream, maintaining a pleasant temperature of 29-30 degrees Celsius year-round, despite the river’s naturally cold waters. These are the thermal baths of Bënja, known as llixha in Albanian, located just 13 km from the heart of the picturesque Përmet. Visitors come here seeking relief from ailments such as rheumatism, skin conditions, and kidney issues, among others. It is said that each mineral-rich thermal pool has its own unique healing properties!
  • Gjirokaster Castle - Gjirokastër Castle (Albanian: Kalaja e Gjirokastrës or Kalaja e Argjirosë) is a fortress in Gjirokastër, Albania. During Ottoman rule, it was historically known as Ergiri, while local Greeks referred to it as Argyrokastro, a name also used for the castle. Gjirokastër Castle stands at an elevation of 336 meters (1,102 ft). The castle dominates the town and overlooks the strategically important route along the river valley. It is open to visitors and houses a military museum featuring captured artillery and memorabilia from the Communist resistance against German occupation, as well as a captured United States Air Force plane commemorating the Communist regime’s struggle against imperialist western powers.

Additional Information

We’re heading across the mountains to the picturesque Drinos valley to explore Gjirokastra, the stern city of stone nested on the Broad Mountain. This city, one of the region’s most famed medieval towns, has a history stretching back to the 3rd century BC. We plan to explore the formidable fortress, the old Bazaar and the 300-year-old Skenduli house, a prime example of Gjirokastra’s architectural style. Our journey will also take us to the Benja hot springs.. A medieval stone bridge spans a section of the vividly coloured blue-green water body. Having existed since the Ottoman Empire, it allows crossing over the sulfur-rich river. Beneath this bridge, the warm water provides a soothing experience to visitors. Close to the bridge is the Benja Hot Springs, springing from the geothermal water near Përmet, Albania. The heated water is routed down the river, and occasionally channelled into several man-made pools. These pools provide an excellent place to enjoy a hot soak on a chilly day.

Permet + Gjirokaster Tour - It wasn't the best day to visit Permet and Gjirokaster because of the rain but our guide and owner of Leka Tours, Kevin makes the best out of this day for us. His english is very well and its easily to communicate with him Permet and Gjirokaster are simply to beautiful to dont visit when you are in the South Albania. So when you are in the Saranda ask for Leka Tours and Kevin.

Blue Eye, Butrint, Ksamil...and the thermal baths of Benja. Don't miss any of these places. - So glad I heard about these thermal baths and that Leka Tours took me there. From start to finish it was a great day. Aleksia, the guide, and Kevin, the driver, are very kind and very good at what they do. They were more than happy to tailor the day to suit my desires, and provided top rate service. The baths should not be missed, as the setting is lovely and the waters are believed to be curative. I have been on tours with three different companies in Albania, and Leka Tours is now my favorite. Faleminderit for a wonderful day!
