Highlights
  • Wright Square - Wright Square is named in honor of Sir James Wright, the last Royal Governor of the Georgia colony. In the center of the square, you can find a monument dedicated to William Washington Gordon, a prominent figure in Georgia’s history and the founder of the Central of Georgia Railway.
  • Chippewa Square - Chippewa Square famous for the Forrest Gump bench
  • Madison Square - Charming plaza with nearby historic homes & a monument to Revolutionary War Sgt. William Jasper.
  • Lafayette Square - The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist
  • Troupe Square - One notable feature of Troup Square is the Armillary Sphere, a sundial-like structure located in the center of the square. This sphere was added in the 1970s as part of a beautification project.
  • Crawford Square - Crawford Square is one of the 22 squares in the historic district of Savannah. It’s known for its beautiful green space and historic charm. The square is surrounded by historic homes and is a popular destination for visitors.
  • Greene Square - The square is named for Revolutionary War hero General Nathanael Greene, an aide to George Washington.[2] A native of Rhode Island, Greene commanded Southern forces during the Revolution, and after the war settled at Mulberry Grove, an estate fourteen miles (23 km) above Savannah. Greene, along with his son, is actually buried in Savannah’s Johnson Square.
  • Columbia Square - Columbia Square Columbia Square Columbia Square Columbia Square 1 2 3 4 5 It might be hard to imagine that this small square is in the middle of the downtown streets of Savannah. Its serene fountain and live oak trees create an ambient atmosphere amid the bustle. The fountain in the middle of the square is called the Wormsloe Fountain because it was imported in 1970 from one of Georgia’s earliest settlements, Wormsloe Plantation. The square was laid out in 1799 and is home to the Isaiah Davenport House and Kehoe House. Named Columbia Square, after the popular nickname for the American colonies – Columbia, holds poetic significance as the female personification of the United States. There is also speculation that the name celebrated the founding of the new capital building in the District of Columbia in 1790.
  • Oglethorpe Square - The square is named after James Oglethorpe and features a central monument dedicated to him. Oglethorpe Square is surrounded by historic homes, including the Owens-Thomas House, which is a prominent museum with a mix of English Regency and American Federal architectural styles.
