Sinterklaas Celebrations in Schiphol: Indoor Adventures Await

Experience the magic of Sinterklaas in Schiphol with indoor adventures perfect for rainy days. Discover Amsterdam’s hidden gems and cultural treasures while staying warm and dry.

Embracing Sinterklaas in Schiphol: A Festive Indoor Adventure

As the festive season approaches, Schiphol in North Holland transforms into a hub of cultural celebration and indoor excitement. The Sinterklaas festivities, a beloved Dutch tradition, offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture while staying warm and dry indoors. With the weather forecast predicting rain and overcast skies, it’s the perfect time to explore the indoor wonders of Schiphol and nearby Amsterdam.

Start your weekend with a visit to the Schiphol Plaza, a bustling shopping and dining destination located right at the airport. Here, you can indulge in some retail therapy, sample Dutch delicacies, and even catch a glimpse of Sinterklaas himself as he makes his rounds. The plaza is adorned with festive decorations, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that captures the spirit of the season.

For families, the NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam is a must-visit. Just a short train ride from Schiphol, this interactive museum offers a hands-on experience that will captivate both children and adults. With five floors of exhibits covering topics from physics to biology, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The museum’s indoor setting makes it an ideal choice for a rainy day, allowing you to explore and learn without worrying about the weather.

Discovering Amsterdam’s Hidden Gems

On December 7th, take advantage of the Amsterdam Tour available from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This customized adventure with a bilingual guide offers a unique perspective on Amsterdam’s rich history and vibrant culture. As you stroll through the city’s iconic neighborhoods, you’ll visit Dam Square, the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring, all while learning fascinating stories and insights from your knowledgeable guide.

The tour also includes a visit to the Jewish Quarter, where you’ll discover the JOMA - Jewish Second Generation Art & Family Museum. This museum provides a poignant look at the history and contributions of Amsterdam’s Jewish community, making it a meaningful stop on your journey. With complimentary tea and coffee included, you can stay warm and refreshed as you explore the city.

Review (2024-05-15): Tour outside Amsterdam - We are 3 friends who wanted to discover life outside of Amsterdam and especially without an audio guide!! And we had a great day with Franck. He took us in a Mini (the best) to Les Moulins in Zaandam, to a farm that makes Gouda and to visit the villages of Volendam and Marken. His choice of restaurant was perfect and his explanations allowed us to get to know the Netherlands better. I recommend Amsterdam a la carte!!

Indoor Delights and Cultural Experiences

As the rain continues on December 8th, consider spending your afternoon from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on another Amsterdam Tour. This time, focus on the indoor attractions that Amsterdam has to offer. The Rijksmuseum, with its vast collection of Dutch masterpieces, is a perfect place to spend a few hours. Marvel at works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, and take in the beauty of the museum’s architecture.

For a more contemporary experience, head to the Moco Museum, which features modern and street art from renowned artists like Banksy and Warhol. The museum’s intimate setting allows for a personal connection with the art, making it a memorable stop on your cultural journey.

Finally, end your day with a cozy dinner at one of Amsterdam’s many charming restaurants. Whether you choose a traditional Dutch eatery or an international cuisine, you’ll find plenty of options to satisfy your palate. As you dine, reflect on the day’s adventures and the rich cultural tapestry that makes Schiphol and Amsterdam such a special place to visit during the Sinterklaas celebrations.
