Additional Information

Tucked away in the southeast corner of Germany, encircled by an impressive range of mountains, lies the Königsee, or King’s Lake. The lake is the centerpiece of Berchtesgaden Nationalpark, Germany’s sole alpine national park and a distinguished UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The lake, with a maximum depth of 192 meters, can only be traversed by electric boats, thanks to a tradition more than a century old set by Prince-Regent Luitpold of Bavaria. Luitpold was worried the noise would drive off the deer he fancied hunting in these parts during the 19th century. It is fascinating that the near-vertical mountain walls here create an echo that reverberates up to seven times.
Let’s set out on a serene journey across the King’s lake, where we can catch sight of the St. Bartholomä peninsula nestled against the eastern face of the Watzmann mountain, and see the historic hunting lodge of the kings. We will gaze upon the Röthbach waterfall, Germany’s tallest with a staggering height of over 400 meters, and end our journey at the cul-de-sac that borders Austria.

Beautiful location with a pleasant guide - Königsee is one of the most beautiful spots in Europe. Our guide was Marianne Lenz and she was extremely pleasant, very knowledgeable not only about the tour but also about the history of the region. We truly enjoyed the tour. I would highly recommend Marianne for any tours in the Berchtesgaden area.

Fantastic Private Tour Experience - This tour was outstanding! Claudio was prompt, extremely well informed, and very easy to be with. He shared a terrific review of the history of Konigsee and the area surrounding the Berchtesgarten national forest. We traveled with our three year old, and he was patient and engaging with her, as well.

Not a Private Tour - Please read my review before you book! This is not a private tour. We met our guide on Xmas Day, and rearranged our schedule to accommodate her need for a later time. We met in front of the tourist office and she told us we needed to buy boat tickets to the public boat tour (that already operates with a guide)! Then, when we went to purchase the tickets, the boat was sold out! We couldn’t go. I truly do not understand how this company can sell this as a private tour and not let you know the boat might be sold out even if you prepay for the tour! I asked about the optional hike /walk that is in the tour description; the guide responded that there was no walk/hike! We spent in total 10 minutes with the guide before leaving. When I asked for a refund, the company only wanted to grant me a partial refund! Not acceptable! We travel frequently and have never had an experience like this! On a side note:..: we went back the next day, bought tickets(66E total for three adults), went on the boat and listened to the boat guide! There is no need for this “private” (not private) tour. Save your money!
