• Schloss Hohenschwangau - The childhood home of young King Ludwig II, this castle dates back to the 12th century and was originally the residence of the knights of Schwangau. Over time, it suffered significant damage.

In 1832, Crown Prince Maximilian, who later became King Ludwig II’s father, purchased the castle. It underwent a complete reconstruction, which took five years to finish. The family used it as a summer retreat and hunting lodge.

After his father’s passing, King Ludwig II inherited the castle and spent much of his time there.
