Recognized as the top outdoor activity by TripAdvisor during 2020-2021 in Scottsdale. Our challenging Sunset Desert Jeep Tour offers an adventurous off-road journey through the picturesque Jeep tracks of Tonto National Forest, situated to the north of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Revel in the renowned Arizona sunset (subject to weather conditions) while our expert tour leaders educate you about the local desert ecosystem, wildlife, and the history of the Native Americans. We’ll halt to enjoy the sunset at our lookout spot providing a sweeping view of the historic Great Western Trail.

Please note that this is a common tour, not an exclusive one. For the public tour, we have modified, open-air Jeep Gladiator with a vertical seating arrangement (14 seats), and a Jeep YJ (7 seats).

The total time for this tour varies between 2 to 3 hours according to the season. Check the precise finishing time with your tour leader prior to the commencement of the tour.

Scottsdale Adventure Tours is authorized to conduct recreational activities by the U.S. Department of Agriculture: Cave Creek Ranger District.

Closed-toed shoes are mandatory.
This is a guide-led tour; guests will NOT be driving the Jeep.
From November to February, bring a coat or jacket. The temperature will drop ~20 degrees after sunset.
Our bumpy off-road Jeep tours are low-speed, jarring rides through rough terrain. Please ensure that every guest in your party understands that this off-road tour is a low-speed, bumpy ride through rough terrain.
Please carefully review our list of health restrictions and requirements. Due to safety concerns, we are unable to accommodate guests who do not meet the tour requirements.

Weight limit per seat: 275 pounds. Please contact our office at least 24 hours before the tour to make special arrangements.
Must be physically able to climb a step ladder to enter the lifted Jeeps.

Perfect Sonoran Desert Evening - If you are considering a Sonoran desert jeep tour then you MUST book this excursion. Our tour guide John was amazing in every way. We were warmly greeted and promptly misted with heavenly, lavender infused ice cold water which was a welcome relief to the 100°+ evening. The jeep was perfect for our 4 person family, and he was at the ready with suggestions for seating based on our level of comfort and tolerance for off-roading. Once we were strapped in, briefed, and on our way he engaged each of us with a get to know you Q & A and a bit of trivia about the desert. I knew right away that we’d have a great time. He is a very skilled off-road driver and incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. We are a pretty adventurous family and he tailored the tour accordingly. He answered all of our questions, shared amazing stories and took so many great photos of us. He also shared a bit about himself and his background, and how he acquired his love of the desert and off-roading. The Sonoran desert is truly a magical place, especially at sunset. When we reached the vista point, John broke out some treats & snacks that made it even more special. I will always treasure the memories we made as a family that evening. I am not easily impressed but this tour exceeded my expectations. I also want to thank Mary for answering all of my pre-tour questions. Thanks again John for a wonderful tour!!
