• Mount Pilchuck State Park - This trail offers a complete experience with its lush, mature evergreen forests, granite boulder fields, and sweeping views of the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound. On a clear day, two of Washington’s five volcanoes, Mount Baker and Mount Rainier, can be seen towering over the Cascades. It’s hard to believe one hike could offer so much, but this one truly does.

Mount Pilchuck features an old fire lookout constructed in 1921. It was in service until 1961 and now serves as a popular spot for hikers. The trail strikes a perfect balance with its 5.5-mile distance and 2,400-foot elevation gain. The highest point of the hike reaches 5,344 feet.

This hike is both challenging and rewarding. Upon reaching the summit, hikers can rest and enjoy lunch before descending the mountain. Along the way, remnants of the past can be seen, such as an old cable from a cable car that once transported supplies to the fire lookout, and old timbers from a ski resort lodge that operated nearly 60 years ago.
