Could not recommend this enough! Thank you Hiro, Sumi and Yoshi!! - Could not recommend this experience enough! Thank you so much to Hiro, Sumi and Yoshi for an incredible day. I was treated like royalty, learned a lot, and am so happy to have such a unique, personalized souvenir. Hiro was waiting at the train station for me and had reached out on WhatsApp beforehand so I could contact him if any issues (there were none). First, you will be able to choose a handle from various wood types. You will learn to polish and prepare the blade (i.e., do it yourself), as well as create your own inscription on the blade. In addition to taking home your knife, you will also receive a lovely hand-written certificate. Lunch was included at a nearby restaurant and was a nice touch (we went for sashimi and tempura). Hiro, Sumi and Yoshi are fantastic instructors and are fun, lovely people. They will also take many videos and photos for you! Note: I was traveling solo, am English speaking, and had zero issues. In my group there were participants from all over the world - made some new friends.... bonus! If you are interested in cooking or knife-making, this experience is worth every penny and then some. When I return to Japan I will likely do it again just to see Hiro, Sumi and Yoshi - and to share the joy with friends.

A Definite Highlight of Our Trip! - We had an amazing and memorable experience. The process was well-explained and resulted in sharp and beautiful Damascus knives that we’ll use for years to come. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan! The staff: Sumio, Yoshi, Toshi, and Hiro were so kind and generous with their time and expertise that we didn’t want to leave. Thank you for an amazing workshop!

Excellent Day with Excellent Hosts - This was an incredible unique experience, which if you have interest in chef knives or samurai swords is a must. The travel to Seki alone takes you out off the trodden path, and you see a different side of Japan as a result. Hiro and the guys at the museum are excellent, welcoming and really joyous making the experience such a good day. Even lunch was at a local eaterie with some of the best sushi we had during our visit. For anyone who is questioning whether it is worth the cost - you get the keep the knife you make which is of the highest quality. We managed to slice a tomato so thin it was translucent!

An educational and entertaining day! - We found this to be a very enjoyable experience. Sumio and Yoshi are the perfect hosts and instructors. They have a lot of knowledge to share and we appreciated their sense of humor. As we had a big group of people, the knife making steps took longer and it seems we ran out of time to visit the Gifu Cutlery Hall. However, we felt that the hosts did a great job in managing the time that we had. The bonus in having a larger group was meeting and spending time with travelers from different countries. The tempura restaurant (Suzuki) that we visited for lunch was an outstanding choice. The food was absolutely delicious and made for a perfect break in the day. As a participant, you're not actually forging the knife blade but just assembling, sharpening, polishing and putting your name (in Kanji characters) on it. It was the perfect amount of hands-on work and you leave with a sharp knife that will always remind you of the town of Seki, hosts Sumio and Yoshi and the others who shared in the beautiful day.

Best day in Japan - This time spent in Seki was exceptional. The experience was very interesting and highly enjoyable, even for my Mrs which is not especially into knives.  The kindness of our host was beyond any expectations. We had such a great time, with a lot of laugh and we can only recommend to anyone to grab the opportunity to do this experience.  If you are interested in knives it will be a must do experience, and if knives don't interest you that much it will still truly be a very enjoyable trip that you will remember. It was probably one of our best day trip in Japan.  Thanks again to Hiro and Sakai-san for their huge sense of hospitality and their kindness. We feel blessed.

Experienced and Welcoming Team - I enjoyed learning how these types of knives are made. It was fun and I felt like an old friend of theirs when I visited. I will treasure the knife I made and use it frequently at home.

Amazing experience and warm people - The experience was extraordinary! Even though I was not fluent in Japanese, Sumio, Yoshi, and Hiro accompanies and guided me with great patience and kindness throughout the whole knife-making process. It's very interesting to be able to customize our own messages on the knife and the final result really was a piece of art! Moreover, I appreciate all the friendly and relaxing conversations we had together, which definitely makes for a delighting unforgettable memory in Japan. The treat after was also fabulous. The experience of dining in the local Japanese restaurant was very unique and I would never have gotten the chance were it not for the tour guided. Thanks Sumio, Yoshi and Hiro again for everything in Gifu. Highly recommend visiting this place if you want to have an in-depth travel experience in Japan!

Beautiful experience and wonderful people! - This was one of my best experiences in Japan! I was led through all the steps of making my own knife with great patience and knowledge. The result was a wonderful damascus folding knife, engraved with my name, that makes me proud of the accomplishment. The experience is unique and couldn’t have been better. The people are so nice that it makes the experience a wonderful precious memory. Don’t be discouraged about the location, that is a bit inconvenient. I guarantee you won’t regret it. This will be one of the best experiences you will ever have!
