Constructed under Sultan Ibrahim’s rule from 1782 to 1826, this fortification was erected to defend against Dutch forces. However, it was overtaken by the Dutch in 1784 and subsequently renamed ‘Altingsburt Fort’. The Silver Leafed Monkeys, or ‘Lutung’ in Malay, are a sight to behold at Bukit Malawati Hill, with their distinctive silver-grey fur. The fireflies in this region are remarkable for their bioluminescent tails, which emit light at precise 3-second intervals.
