Highlights
  • Thingvellir National Park - Þingvellir is full of history and natural beauty. It stands between the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This rift valley has a special place in the hearts of all Icelanders. It is where our nation was formed by the Norse Viking settlers when they established the oldest parliament in the modern world, Alþingi Íslendinga, in the year 930 AD.

At this stop there will be enough time to walk around and explore this natural marvel. This is the closest you can get to being in two continents at the same time. We will have the opportunity to walk in the rift valley, where the tectonic plates are pulling apart. We can observe this movement since under the national park the Eurasian and the North-American tectonic plates are moving apart by ~2 cm every year.

Þingvellir was designated as a World Heritage of UNESCO in 2004 and is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and historic places in Iceland.

In the area there are restrooms and coffee shops for visitors.

  • Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss, is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is powerful and tall. Through it the river Hvítá, which is a glacier river originating from Langjökull, plunges down this two step waterfall.

There are a handful of viewing platforms to observe the waterfall and above Gullfoss there is Gullfoss center where there are restrooms, a cafeteria and gift shops.

NOTE: The path leading all the way up to the waterfall is closed during the winter season.

  • Geysir - In Haukadalur there is a field of hot springs associated with the hot spring Geysir, but Geysir is one of the most famous hot spring in the world and used to be a geyser. The main display is the hot spring geyser Strokkur, which erupts approximately every 5 minutes.

Here we have time to walk around the area and this is also where we break for lunch. At Geysir center you find restrooms, gift-shops and the restaurant Glíma which serves for suitable for any pallet or diet.

  • Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin - The last stop of the day is the Secret Lagoon known in Iceland as the “Old pool” since it is the oldest geothermal pool on the island, opened in 1891.

There is nothing more relaxing after a day out in the Icelandic nature then end the day bathing in a warm geothermal pool. Bathing in geothermal pools is a big part of Icelandic culture.

The Secret Lagoon is surrounded by mossy lava fields and numerous springs. By the lagoon there is a little hot spring which erupts every 4-6 minutes.

The water is about 38 to 40°celcius (100 to 104 fahrenheit). Waking through the area is the best way to cool down a bit. It’s nice to stand up and walk around the area on the walking paths which wind through the field of hot springs.

Remember to bring towels and swimsuits with you, but they can as well be rented for a small fee at the lagoon.

We stop in the pool for about 90 minutes.

Family friendly for a day - The tour started promptly with a pickup at our hotel. Although we didn't visit the popular Blue Lagoon, the Secret Lagoon was less crowded and just as enjoyable (no facials though). This trip was also shorter (~9 hours) as we spent less time at some locations as we only had 10 people the day of the tour (19 max). This meant we came back in time to eat and relax before bed. Our guide was informative and friendly with lots of helpful suggestions. I would definitely use this tour company again.

Great tour- definitely recommend! - Our tourguide Siggi made the trip! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. And all the amazing stops ( the waterfall, the geyser the hotspring) gave us a really good impression of Iceland in just one day. It was perfect. Definitely recommend!

Golden Circle tour a great experience - Great communication from the tour coordinator before the tour. We knew exactly where to meet the bus. The guide was super friendly and patient with all of us. The National park and waterfall were both spectacular and the secret lagoon very nice. If time permits, I might choose a tour going to the blue lagoon instead. Overall this was a great tour and everything went as promised. The shopping at the stops was incredible. Great choices for clothes, souvenirs and good food for lunch.

Very good route and guide, maybe additional stops instead of too long ones plus softer driving would make it much more enjoyable - Very good itinerary, excellent guide, although somewhat just driving. Some stops too long to make it enjoyable. Probably some other additional stops would give the excursion much more interest.

Worth the Time - Really liked that this was a small group. Could not imagine having to wait for 40+ people to get on and off a bus at every stop. Although it was raining and the sites had lots of people, we enjoyed this tour. The waterfall was beautiful and the Secret Lagoon was the perfect way to end the day. We loved hearing about Iceland’s history and culture from the tour guide. Worth it.
