- Geysir - A favorite stop along the Golden Circle is the highly active Geysir Hot Spring Area with boiling mud pits, exploding geysers. A favorite is lively Strokkur geyser, which spouts water 30 metres (100 ft) into the air every few minutes.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss (translated to ‘Golden Falls’) is one of Iceland’s most iconic and beloved waterfalls, found in the Hvítá river canyon.
- Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin - It’s time for a relaxing dip! A natural hot spring feeds the lagoon with 38-39°C water that bubbles up from deep within the earth at a rate of 10 litres per second, constantly replenishing itself so that there is a steady supply of fresh clean water in the pool at any given time.
- Kerid Crater - This former volcano, now a 6.500 year old volcanic crater is the last stop on our tour.

Don't think about it, DO IT - VISIT ICELAND! - Amazing experience, seeing things the UK just doesn't have. Beautiful landscape, the tour itself was astounding. The National Park may not sound much, but when you're there and learn the history, it is 100% worth it. Add the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, the natural Geysir's and its a day you won't forget. But, when also included is the Volcanic Kerid crater and a lovely dip in the warm, natural waters of the secret lagoon and seriously, what more can you want from a day out?
What added to this experience was the fact we had an excellent tour guide, Jon. He was friendly the second he stepped out his vehicle. Very easy to like and get along with, unbelievably knowledgeable. He doesn't just answer questions, he expands on everything you ask, therefore giving you a great understanding of past and present Iceland, and educating you in a very friendly and informative manner. EXACTLY what I want in a guide. 1st class.
As a City, Reykjavik (where we stayed) has enough bars and restaurants to keep you busy, but it isn't a City break place. I'd recommend staying there, but booking many tours outside the City, to see the real Iceland.
As a black male traveller, with a white female partner, you have to be aware of the Country you visit and it's racial attitudes. I can say, I found Iceland to be 100% welcoming to us, the people seem to only care that you're a decent person and then go from there. A great refreshing attitude, that more should adopt. I would say to any black travellers, this is not only a safe Country for you, but a very welcoming Country for you. I wanted to visit for years, finally did and I'll be back, as so much more to do, I need to do the glaciers, boat trip to see whales etc etc...
To finish, the people are great, the Country is great. I can only give 1 piece of advice regarding Iceland...
GET ON A PLANE & GO SEE ITS WONDERS, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Icelandic Golden Circle tour with Jon. - We had rented a car but wanted the experience of a local guide for our Golden Circle tour.
Jon arrived on time and helped us aboard in his comfortable van. His family was among the original settlers, and his cultural and educational background made the perfect fit for us.
He selected beautiful and scenic routes, explaining geography, geology, history, and cultural aspects along the journey.
Jon provided the experience and level of depth and nuance answering our questions with expertise and humor.
He was attentive to ensure we spent the allotted time maximizing our interests, so the pace and timing was always perfect, including lunch and snacks at a local farmer's dairy and mushroom farm.
We saw geysers, soaked in the Secret Lagoon hot springs, and traversed from the North American tectonic plates onto no-mans land, the European plate and back, crystal clear gacial water falls and lakes, and the historic Parlament governmental site.
On returning he offered Restaurant suggestion based on our interests, and the food there was fantastic.

A Day to Remember - This was my first trip to Iceland and the first tour experience here and the day we spent with John, our guide, exceeded my expectations. He was welcoming, knowledgeable and well prepared to guide us.
I felt comfortable with him from the moment we met. I said that I was interested in Icelandic language and he gave me a brief overview, answering the questions I had with obvious enthusiasm for his native tongue and country.
Throughout the day John was accommodating, with a low keyed humor and eagerness to provide us with the best experience possible. His knowledge of the area is outstanding and at each site we visited John provided us with an excellent overview.
Finally, I’d like to thank John for going beyond the agreed to limits of the tour. He brought us to another gorgeous waterfall at the end of the day and then offered to drive us to dinner.
I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to this stunning country.

Golden Circle - OMG. Trip was wonderful and our guide John was fantastic. He knew about a wonderful mushroom restaurant that was not overrun with tour buses. We highly recommend.

Jon was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and a pleasant fellow to spend the day with. We were extra surprised by the delightful lunch stop at the tomato greenhouse. Overall, this tour was one of our best days in Iceland!

There are tons of tours of the... -
There are tons of tours of the Golden Circle as it is one of the most popular destinations for tourists. Of course this tour goes to all of the standard sites.

But there were a couple of things that set this tour apart.

First, as a private tour, rather than a group tour, we got to adapt the tour and what we learned about to our interests. Spend a little more time at one destination, skip through another. And we got to learn a ton about Iceland as we talked with our guide and asked about local towns, growing up in Iceland, and the history of Iceland.

Second, as a private tour, they are able to pick you up at your hotel or apartment. Having taken multiple group tours where you stand outside in the freezing cold at a bus stop waiting for 30-45 minutes for your bus to show up, boy was it nice to be able to just walk out our door and hop in the van.

Finally, this tour included the Secret Lagoon, a natural hot springs fed pool. I haven't been to the Blue Lagoon the more popular of the heated pools but the Secret Lagoon was very low key, not over populated with tourists, and all natural. It is surrounded by hot springs with their runoff flowing directly into the pool and keeping it warm.

Fridjon was a wonderful guide. He was knowledgable and friendly and enjoyable to be around.

The one suggestion I might have is if you are considering any Golden Circle tour, consider how the weather will impact it. Iceland was pretty cold when we were there between Christmas and New Years and it meant that at many of the stops, we ran out, took some pictures and ran back into the car. We weren't really able to hang out and enjoy the stops as it was too cold.
