Highlights
  • Silfra Fissure Arctic Adventures - Meet us at Thingvellir National Park, about 50 km from Reykjavik. Once you have met your PADI divemaster certified guide, he or she will be going through the procedure and safety measures of your tour. After, you will put on your gear and head to an exotic underwater canyon/fissure, Silfra, created as the continental plates drift apart at a rate of about 2 cm per year. Silfra is a freshwater fissure where you can see at least 100 meters ahead of you. The water here is so clear and pristine it feels like flying. The approximate time in the water is around 40 minutes. Before leaving you’ll have a delicious hot chocolate prepared by your guide for the day.

We do have the option to pre-book a wetsuit on another listing. Booking a wetsuit is recommended for people who want to have the chance to dive down or who are scuba divers without the required certifications for the scuba dive. For the wetsuit it is recommended that you are a confident swimmer, if you are not then the drysuit is best for you. To cater to everyone’s desires we are the only company that has wetsuits and drysuits allowing them to be in the same group.

What sets Silfra apart is not merely its geological peculiarity, but it is also globally recognized for its pristine and pure glacial water. Continuously replenished with 100m+ visibility potable water, this supports the distinct biodiversity in the crevice.

100 year old water and hot chocolate - So amazing! There was 7 of us in our group so three went with one guide and four of us went with another. Hugo was awesome. Didn’t rush us, made sure we were all prepped, and checked in with us during. The dry suit is tight around your neck but it’s supposed to be so don’t worry! We came out completely dry!! As soon as I got out I wanted to go back in.

Crystal clear views - This was such a wonderful experience! Dory was very helpful in getting us prepared to snorkel (which is actually a ton of work…there is a wet suit, dry suit, head covering, special gloves) and took lots of photos. Although there are no fish in the water, the views were amazing and crystal clear. The Trolls Hair was our favorite! The water was only 35 degrees Fahrenheit. I was still very cold by the end of the experience, but the suits we wore kept us a lot warmer than I expected.

Silfra in June 2024 - Had a great time! The water is 2 degrees C (37 degres F) but only a small portion of your face is exposed. Had a great time and Dory was the best. The meeting point is a little confusing if the vans aren't well marked- and ours weren't. Apparently they were relatively new vans and the logo hadn't been placed on them yet. Our group had been standing near a different area for almost 30 minutes until we realized we were supposed to be 30 feet away with this group!!! They were great and didn't prevent us from going on the trip. Wear regular single layer clothing- I had a jogging suit on, others wore thermals. You get an undersuit that covers your clothes, then they help you get into a dry suit. It's a little tight around the neck, and you have to walk 400+meters that way, so be aware of that. Honestly, once you're in the water you don't even think about it and you're just glad not to get that water into your suit/clothes. Water is clear and beautiful. Once in a lifetime type experience.

Great views and fun adventure - It takes some time to get suited up and isn't comfortable but then you enter the water and you forget all that. Our guide Doras was great. Don't forget no glasses and have layers although they provide an underlayer. Not a place to see fish but the views were still great. Also drysuits don't sink so you just float along and can easily flip over if you need to get water out of mask or snorkel. No waves so some of the easiest snorkeling around.

Awesome Experience! Professional Guide! - Shout out to the guide Oliver, super patient, friendly, professional! At first I was nervous, wondering if it is too cold and how difficult and uncomfortable to put on the drysuit. Oliver just made everything easy ; I then became so comfortable and happy to experience Silfra Drysuit snorkeling! The tour with Oliver is highly recommended.
