- Silfra Fissure Arctic Adventures - Meet us at Thingvellir National Park, about 50 km from Reykjavik. Once you have met your PADI divemaster certified guide, he or she will be going through the procedure and safety measures of your tour. After, you will put on your gear and head to an exotic underwater canyon/fissure, Silfra, created as the continental plates drift apart at a rate of about 2 cm per year. Silfra is a freshwater fissure where you can see at least 100 meters ahead of you. The water here is so clear and pristine it feels like flying. The approximate time in the water is around 40 minutes. Before leaving you’ll have a delicious hot chocolate prepared by your guide for the day.
We do have the option to pre-book a wetsuit on another listing. Booking a wetsuit is recommended for people who want to have the chance to dive down or who are scuba divers without the required certifications for the scuba dive. For the wetsuit it is recommended that you are a confident swimmer, if you are not then the drysuit is best for you. To cater to everyone’s desires we are the only company that has wetsuits and drysuits allowing them to be in the same group.

Take an unforgettable snorkeling adventure within two tectonic plates at Silfra, one of the world’s greatest diving locales! Nestled in Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park, Silfra is a crevice carved by the shifting of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
What sets Silfra apart is not merely its geological peculiarity, but it is also globally recognized for its pristine and pure glacial water. Continuously replenished with 100m+ visibility potable water, this supports the distinct biodiversity in the crevice.
We have the exclusive offer at Silfra to provide both drysuit and wetsuit options, accommodating individual preferences within your group.
Pictures are part of our package, so you don’t need to worry about handling your camera. However, you’re free to bring one if preferred. Our experienced guides know the prime photo opportunities to capture you and your group.
- All participants must know how to swim and be comfortable in water
- All participants must be able to communicate in English
- Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting, especially around the neck and wrists
- Minimum age is 12 years, please reach out regarding younger participants & Participants over the age of 65 need to get a physicians approval
- Be at minimum 150cm (4’9) tall / maximum 200cm (6’7) tall, and be at minimum 50kg (99 lbs) / maximum 120kg (264 lbs)
- Don’t wear glasses, instead bring contact lenses or your own prescription mask (if you have one)
- Recommended to bring a change of clothes (the drysuit has a very small chance of leaking)
- We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks a a base layer under the drysuit
- All participants heights, weights and age must be provided to local operator. If you do not provide at time of booking, please contact supplier immediately after booking to provide this information
- All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. Please find a link to the medical statement on your ticket voucher right after booking the experience to be sure if you qualify.
- Please dress according to weather - no heals or jeans
- Note: Each guide can assist one group of up to six participants at a time. Up to three different groups can be present during this activity.
- Make sure to eat breakfast before this activity
- Not recommended for people with claustrophobia (Wetsuit can be a better option if you are)

Silfra Adventure Vikings
Park at “Thingvellir P5” & walk 400m back along the road until you reach a smaller car park with all the snorkel & dive vans. Please be there, ready to meet your guide 15 min before your tour is due to begin. Stick to main roads & dont take any short cuts to Silfra, especially in winter.

Fabulous experience snorkelling in crystal clear waters - Fabulous experience snorkelling with a super helpful guide Dora. It was amazing seeing into the crystal clear waters and although it was cold, the gear we were given kept us warm enough for the duration of the experience. Highly recommend.

Doris from Adventure Vikings gave our family of 4 an excellent tour. Highly recommended and not even cold. - Our family of four did the drysuit Silfa tour in late August, led by Doris. The instructions on where to park and meet were very clear and all of the equipment worked flawlessly with no leaks or issues with the cold water. Some of us were nervous but Doris was clear and calm and helped us through a new experience. We got plenty of photos from her and from our rented GoPro.

Magical, unforgettable underwater adventure - I was pretty apprehensive but my girlfriend really wanted to do this so I was game. From the moment we arrived at the check in everything so perfect. Our dive master Oliver was a great storyteller on top of being a professional diver for 36 years; we were confident we were in really good hands. The suiting up process is thorough and rigorous; thankfully, because 35* water in your dry suit would be a problem. Your time in the water is between 30 and 45 minutes and from the second you first put your face in the water it’s a magical and peaceful experience. Not once did I feel cold at all and could have continued much longer. However, some people do feel cold by the end, especially in their hands and feet. We highly recommend you take this adventure with Adventure Vikings and hope Oliver is your leader.

Incredible experience well worth making the time for - Really enjoyed this tour with Dory! I was a bit nervous about how the fruit would work and feel, but it was way easier than I thought it would be as we had a great instructor for the tour.
Also really appreciated the help getting into and out of the suits.
The photos we got from the tour were so lovely; it was nice having Dory take some photos for us so we were able to just focus on swimming around and absorbing the experience without worrying about trying to take photos.
Ended up with a lovely sunny day and absolutely loved this tour! 5 stars, would recommend.

Amazing!!!! - My son and I had an amazing experience snorkeling through Silfra! Our guide, Niko, was friendly, helped answer all our questions, and made the adventure all that more enjoyable! I would highly recommend booking your trip with Niko and the Adventure Vikings crew!

Amazing views, great guide, wonderful weather! - Diving in Silfra had been on our to do list for a while, and as per advice given by a couple of people working on these tours, booked an evening time which meant private tour! And no waiting! Had wonderful Hugo for our guide who was very friendly, personable, and took good care of us and plenty of photos too. We initially booked wet suit tour as per information given on website re ability to dive instead of float only, but as per expert advice, we stayed (mostly) dry and floated above the surface in comfortable warmth, taking in amazing views in this clear water.
This really is a wonderful experience and definitely worth a stop, if you are not afraid of a bit of cold water.

Beautiful underwater landscape and extremely friendly tour guide - Quite an amazing experience viewing the beautiful landscape down there. Absolutely prestine, clear water and great conditions. Our tour guide Hugo was extremely friendly and helpful with a lot of experience with snorkeling and diving. Very happy to have chosen adventure vikings for this

Snorkeling the Silfra Fissure - We did the snorkel tour with Dori and it was so fun! She made sure we knew what to expect, helped us all into our gear, and was an excellent tour guide. We highly recommend this adventure and felt like we were in safe hands the whole time.

Outstanding way of seeing the major fissure at the plate boundary - We had our tour with Klaudyna and it was fantastic.
Once she checked all our medical safety details she put us at ease and looked after us to get prepared. We had a really warm van to change and get the first layers set up. She knew exactly the right size if suits we needed and got us ready. She was confident and made sure we were comfortable with the equipment. Once we got in the water we were put at ease and were able to really enjoy the spectacular colours on the water and the views in the fissure. It was absolutely beautiful. I get cold easily and I found the suits worked brilliantly despite the water being about 2 degrees.
At the end of the dive we were given some free time in the lagoon to have a look around. I went over the little silfra fissure which was equally as amazing.
At the end we were assisted in getting changed and had the most amazing hot chocolate to warm up. Thank you Klaudyna for a great experience.
