- Geysir - The renowned Geysir, after which all hot springs worldwide are named, no longer erupts regularly. It did so in 2000 due to earthquakes and again in 2016. The entire area is alive with geothermal activity, so it’s important to stay on the designated walking paths. However, Strokkur is the new star, erupting impressively every 4-10 minutes.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss, meaning “Golden Waterfall,” is a magnificent 32-meter, two-tiered waterfall that cascades into the Hvítá River. It is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, partly because it was nearly sold to an Englishman in the past, but a determined young woman fought to preserve it. Visitors can get very close to the falls and might even see a rainbow gracing it.
- Fridheimar - Friðheimar is a family-run business specializing in tomato cultivation and horse breeding. They grow tomatoes year-round under artificial light, despite the long, dark winters. In the summer, they host horse shows that offer insight into the Settlement-era horse breed. It’s the perfect place to sample their renowned tomato soup.
- Kerid Crater - Formed approximately 6,500 years ago, Kerið Crater is located at the northern end of a series of craters known as Tjarnarhólar. It is oval-shaped, about 270 meters long, 170 meters wide, and 55 meters deep, with water depth varying between 7 and 14 meters. According to tradition, a rise in water level here corresponds with a fall in the pond on Búrfell in Grímsnes, and vice versa.
