Your first stop is ancient Ephesus, renowned as the best-preserved classical city in the eastern Mediterranean and the largest open-air museum in Turkey. Explore the Great Theatre, where St. Paul delivered sermons against pagans and gladiators once fought. Originally accommodating 25,000 spectators, the facade of the Library of Celsus, beautifully restored, is likely the most photographed site in Ephesus. It was constructed between 115 and 125.
You may also visit the Odeon Temple, Fountain of Trajan, Temple of Hadrian, Scholastica Baths, Marble Road, agora, and the Temple of Domitian. After enjoying lunch at a local Turkish restaurant, proceed to the House of the Virgin Mary. Mary was brought to Ephesus by the apostle John following Christ’s resurrection and spent her final days here.
