Highlights
  • Jomblang Cave - Jomblang Cave is one of the many cave complexes in Gunungkidul, renowned for its unique and undeniable beauty. Situated on a stretch of karst hills along the southern coast, extending from Gombong in Central Java to the karst region of the Sewu Mountains in Pacitan, East Java, Jomblang Cave was a filming location for the American TV show Amazing Race in 2011. This vertical collapse doline cave was formed by a geological process where the soil and vegetation above it sank to the earth’s bottom. These remnants created a sinkhole or well with an area of about 50 square meters at the cave’s entrance. In Javanese, wells are also known as luweng, hence this cave is often referred to as Luweng Jomblang.
  • Timang Beach - The name “Timang” is derived from a large boulder that breaks the waves in the middle of the ocean, known as Timang Island. Timang Island is a major tourist attraction due to a gondola, a type of cable car, that can be used to cross to the island. This gondola was built in 1997 for fishermen seeking seafood like lobsters, as it was impossible to reach the island by boat due to strong waves and currents. The gondola was created to aid them in their lobster hunting. Due to the high tourist interest in the gondola ride, it has become the main attraction of Timang Beach. Made of acacia wood, the gondola uses one or two stationary ropes for support, as ropes are more resistant to seawater than iron and steel. The gondola can carry only one person at a time to Timang Island.

Additional Information

Your vacation will be transformed into an unforgettable journey. Exclusive to Yogyakarta are the alluring destinations of Jomblang and Timang.
Jomblang cave is a unique geological formation known as a collapse doline, formed by the earth’s surface and its vegetation falling into a subterranean void millennia ago. This phenomenon has resulted in an expansive cave entrance roughly 50 meters in diameter.
Timang beach offers coastal allure at the seam where land meets sea. The standout feature for visitors is the Timang island, accessible via a traditional Gondola - a kind of aerial tramway originally employed by fishermen to pursue oceanic delicacies such as lobster. The rough seas and powerful currents made it impossible for boats to safely reach the island, inspiring the creation of the gondola to ease their quest for lobsters.

Great one day adventure - This is a great one day tour to explore the natural attractions around Jogja. It was quite thrilling for me as I have slight acrophobia. The descent into the cave was quite an experience and the workers will make sure you get the perfect photo inside. At Timang beach, I opted to walk the bridge - another thrilling activity and once again, the workers will help get the perfect shot on the bridge & island. My guide, Ardi, was kind and took care of me every step of the tour.

Smooth experience - I visited with Ardi as my guide. Very easy pick up collection from my hostel and took me for a lovely breakfast on the journey. Jomblang cave is beautiful, we were lucky with the weather and the cave light was perfect. Then Ardi drove me to the village before Timang beach, where you pay a driver to take you out to the beach. Also very pretty spot!

An awesome excursion! - I can only highly recommend this excursion. The cave is magical, even mystical, and the rock on Timang beach is just incredible with a breathtaking view. The only downside is that the lunch is not good. It's not Javanese vacation's fault, lunch is included in the cave visit. Special mention for Rio, the guide and driver who accompanied me, an adorable, caring and very attentive man. Water wipe after visits to clean your face because it is very hot. Thank you for everything !!

Highly recommended for a comfortable, trusting, seemless holiday - A memorable trip to the both to Jomblang and Timang. Both beautiful in different landscapes It was a two hour ride from Yogja city to Jomblang with a quick stop by Rio, to a local delicacy Thiwul Ayu’s kitchen . Fresh thiwul and Gula Jawa. Rio, our Pte hire, from Javanese Vacations is knowledgeable, picks up hints of your interests, gives recommendations of food, places of interest and most importantly flexible with our plans, arranging tickets to places of interest and routes smoothly On to Timang Beach, a rugged jeep ride to the star attraction. Was happy Rio came along with us as he too learned more about the local community and shared with us too. His jovial and caring personality made this trip a fun, comfy trip even for my 82y/o dad Rio brought us to an eatery for a good bowl of mee rebus, frequented by locals. Wouldn’t not have stopped by there if not for his recommendation. Bonus.. he even brought local kuihs for us to try. Generously sharing his Javanese food, life and culture Good overall experience
