Oedolgae - Oedolgae Rock (Lonely rock)
There is a poignant love legend associated with Oedolgae. Long ago, in a coastal village in Seogwipo-si, a couple lived with their child. One day, the father went out to sea to fish but encountered a storm, causing his boat to capsize and leading to his demise. Despite sinking into the sea, the father never returned. The mother waited on the beach every day for decades until she eventually turned to stone and passed away. The rock resembles a grandmother carrying a baby. When the father heard the news, he floated over the sea, washed up on the beach, and also turned into stone. The grandfather’s legs are submerged in the sea, so if you look into the water behind the grandmother, you can see his feet. - Jeongbang Waterfall - This waterfall is a symbol of Jeju Island and is the only one in Asia that cascades directly into the sea. It’s a place where you can dip your feet in the water. The Chinese characters ‘Seobulgwacha’ are inscribed on the rock wall of Jeongbang Waterfall. According to legend, an envoy from Qin Shi Huang visited Yeongju Mountain (now Mount Halla) in Jeju Island in search of the herb of immortality and left the inscription on a rock. Jeongbang Waterfall is surrounded by many rocks, so you need to tread carefully, and while the stairs are easy to descend, they are quite challenging to climb. As the only natural waterfall in Asia that flows into the sea, it creates a stunning scene, especially when there are rainbows and numerous photos taken. Jeongbang Falls is one of the top 10 hidden gems of Jeju Island and a must-visit tourist spot.
- O’sulloc Tea Museum - Opened in September 2001, the O’sulloc Tea Museum showcases tea-related items from both domestic and international sources. It serves as a cultural space that blends Eastern and Western traditions with modern elements, offering a nature-friendly place to relax. It’s an educational space where visitors can learn about green tea and traditional Korean tea culture, and experience everything related to Sulloc tea.
Taking photos in the green tea field is a must, capturing the essence of youthful greenery. Consider setting aside time for meditation, allowing the whole family to unwind and enjoy a leisurely cup of tea. Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, this can be a time for physical and mental rejuvenation.
- Songaksan Mountain - Songaksan Beach is renowned as a filming location for dramas. In the coastal caves, you can see the tunnels that the Japanese army forced Jeju residents to build. These trenches were made to protect the kamikaze airfield during the war against the US Navy and warships. Songaksan Mountain was used by the Japanese military as a base for their invasion of China during World War II, and remnants of runways and airship hangars can still be seen. Fifteen trenches from that era remain beneath the sea cliffs.
From the observatory, you can get a close view of the southernmost Marado (also known as Marado) and Gapado Island.
- Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff - The columnar joints here are quadrangular-shaped pillars that appear as if they were meticulously carved with a sharp knife. These vertical joints are formed in basaltic lava flows due to the rapid cooling and contraction of thick lava from a crater. The hexagonal stone pillars, stacked like steps and surrounded like a folding screen, offer a fascinating glimpse into the mysteries of nature. The waves crashing against the pillars are a spectacular sight, sometimes creating a ‘show’ that soars over 20 meters high, leaving viewers in awe. The Jusangjeolli Cliff on the Jungmun-Daepo Coast is the largest of its kind in Korea, with a height of 30 to 40 meters and a width of about 1 kilometer, and is designated as Jeju Island Natural Monument No. 443.
- Jeju 1100 Altitude Wetland - Entering the trail across from the 1100 Hill rest area, you’ll find a nature learning trail with a wooden deck that allows you to explore the 1100 Hill wetland. This wetland stores water between rocks formed by lava, fostering the growth of various aquatic plants. Lichens, which cover rocks in white, are the first plants to appear on the ground, absorbing nutrients and minerals from the air, snow, and rain. In this wetland, you can find tadpoles and matsutake mushrooms, as well as white potato development herbs and yellow frog parsley, which thrive in higher altitudes. Additionally, chicken orchids, bigfinch eggs, and mountain swallow eggs grow here. The tree and shrub community includes species such as water oak, Jeju bamboo, yew, and ash. The 20-minute wooden walkway is accessible to people of all ages and genders, and there’s a cafe where you can enjoy views of Hallasan Mountain.

At Yongmeori, witness how the lava hardens as it meets the sea, resembling a dragon. Here, you also get to interact with the haenyeo while sauntering along. A calming break awaits you in the lushness of the green tea fields.
