It is best to visit during low tide to fully appreciate the beauty and dramatic geological features of Yongmeori Coast.

Sanbangsan Mountain - Formed by intense volcanic activity 700,000 to 800,000 years ago, Sanbangsan Mountain is essentially a massive lava formation. The name “sanbang” means “a cave inside a mountain,” and indeed, a cave is located about 150 meters above sea level, housing the Buddhist Sangbangsa Temple. The southern cliffs of the lava dome are adorned with a variety of intriguing formations, including weathering pits and talus scree slopes, some reaching heights of 200 meters.
