Hallasan Mountain, the iconic centerpiece of Jeju Island, is also known as Mt. Yeongjusan, which translates to ‘mountain high enough to pull the galaxy.’ This mountain is celebrated for its geological significance and has been recognized as a national park since 1970, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2002, a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007, and a UNESCO Geopark in 2010.
Eoseungsaengak, reaching a height of 1,169m above sea level, offers a 1.3 km trail to the summit that typically takes about 30 minutes to ascend.
From the peak, visitors can marvel at the panoramic views of Jeju city on one side and the peak of Mt. Halla on the other.
If the path is closed due to inclement weather such as heavy rain, snow, or ice, an alternative visit to Mountain Songak or other indoor museums will be arranged.
