What is the DMZ

While the Cold War happened a long time ago, Korea is the only country that still remains divided as a consequence. The DMZ lies on the border between the North and the South. This is the most heavily fortified border in the whole world, so don’t miss the chance to see it! You should expect a truly immersive and unforgettable trip on all our DMZ tours!

DMZ Gondonla tour

Our DMZ Gondola tour is one of our most popular DMZ tours and can also be an excellent alternative to our DMZ Half Day tour and JSA tour when political or military events restrict access to some of the stops on those tours. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the highlights of this experience.

What a memorable tour! - I booked the tour for 7:30am but got a text the day before saying the pick up time would be at 6:40 instead. (No hotel pick up.) Only 50 tour buses are allowed in every day so they wanted to be sure we got in. My favorite part was the observatory where we could see into North Korea and even see people riding bikes. (It was thankfully a clear day.) The tunnel hike up was strenuous but I'm glad I did it. Emily was a great guide and gave us interesting insights into the history of the area and tour tips (buy gimbap at the first stop, soybean ice cream at the last stop.) What a memorable tour!

Well-time, well-rounded action packed day - There are 2 things I can’t be: a school teacher and a tour guide. Fortunately, we were on Team Nancy, who ran such an enjoyable, engaging and punctual tour. A complete day - seeing everything we wanted at just the right speed. And I appreciated how Nancy made sure we had no stragglers to impede the groups enjoyment. Great value for money. Memorable day.

Best DMZ Tour - The views were amazing, and Emily our tour guide was super informative and enthusiastic about everything. She was so lovely to have as a tour guide and made the whole experience a lot more worthwhile as well, with all the historical information, and also offering to take photos for us and guiding us to toilets when we were lost. Would definitely recommend booking a tour with her if interested in visiting the North/South Korean DMZ border. Thank you so much Emily!

Felt a bit rushed but all in all a great trip! - I had a great time visiting the DMZ. The only misleading thing for me was the hotel pickup, because they only pick you up from the station at 7:00. After asking repeatedly about the hotel pickup, they offered me to pick me up at 6:10 which I denied in the end because it only took me 15 minutes to walk to Myeondong station. Nevertheless, I think when the program states that hotel pick-up is available, they should have offered both alternatives to choose from and not make me ask for it repeatedly or just not offer the hotel pick-up at all. The tour itself was nice though, our guide Crystal was very nice and explained a lot of very interesting things about North Korea to us. In the beginning, everything felt a bit unorganised and rushed though, because we only had 20 minutes at the first stop and around 30 minutes on the other side of the river when taking the gondola. I understand that the planning with the way the tickets are sold is quite difficult, however I think 10 more minutes at the first two stops would have been great. All in all though, because we got to see a lot of places and somehow had a very good timing of leaving when places became crowded, in the end I didn’t feel like missing anything. I really liked that Crystal always gave us information when we were on the bus so we were really well prepared for the next stop and the ride didn’t feel as long. She also showed us a lot of things on the way. I would definitely recommend this tour. I personally also visited the War Museum in Seoul beforehand and thought it was really helpful to understand the Korea War, so I would also recommend on doing that beforehand.

Bad tour guide - Tour guide "gogo" was very immature and rude. While on the bus, a few of us were talking. Instead of asking us to stop, he just standing quietly waiting but never said anything. Finally he asked "if I wanted the microphone"? I was very confused. He apparently was waiting to start talking but instead of just asking us to stop, he was very immature and rude.
