- Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park - Located approximately 56km northwest of Seoul City Hall and 7km south of the Military Demarcation Line, Imjingak is a prominent peace tourism destination in South Korea, situated by the Imjin River. It serves as a poignant reminder of the Korean War’s tragic history, offering visitors a chance to appreciate the value of peace. The park is home to various war relics and features a Peace Nuri Park with a vast 30,000-pyeong lawn, making it a well-known tourist attraction.
During the Korean War, the Imjingak area was a devastating battlefield. Notable sites include the Imjin River Iron Bridge, which was destroyed early in the war and remains today, and the Bridge of Freedom, crossed by South Korean and UN soldiers who were prisoners of war seeking freedom. Imjingak was established for North Korean refugees and designated as a tourist site. Today, it has expanded into a large-scale tourist destination spanning 140,000 pyeong, featuring new facilities such as Peace Nuri, Imjingak Peace Gondola, the Korean War Abductees Memorial Hall, and children’s play areas.
- The Third Tunnel - After watching a related video at the DMZ Theater and donning a safety helmet, visitors enter the tunnel. Photography is prohibited in this area, so mobile phones must be stored in lockers. The Third Tunnel, capable of moving 30,000 troops per hour, is located just 52km from Seoul.
- Dora Observatory - Located in Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, at the northernmost point of the Military Demarcation Line, Dora Observatory replaced the former Songaksan Observation Post. From here, visitors can view North Korea, including Gaeseong, Songaksan, the Kim Il-Sung Statue, and Cooperation Farm (Geumamgol). The observatory features 500 spectator seats, a VIP room, and ample parking. It opened to the public in January 1987.
- Dorasan Station - Dorasan Station, part of the Gyeongui Line, is the northernmost station on South Korea’s railway network. Situated 55.8 kilometers from Seoul and 205 kilometers from Pyeongyang, it was inaugurated as a tourist attraction on April 4, 2002, just before the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup.
To visit Dorasan Station, travelers can take the DMZ train on the Gyeongui Line from Seoul Station or Munsan Station. As this area lies within the Civilian Control Line, access is granted only after an identification check at Imjingang Station.
