Sossusvlei - Collection time is scheduled between 08:00 and 08:30 from any location in Windhoek. Surrounded by mountains, Windhoek requires passage over both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As the journey progresses through this magnificent landscape, the descent from the central plateau begins. A stop at Solitaire is planned for refueling and possibly afternoon tea before continuing to the lodge, aiming for an early afternoon arrival. Sossusvlei is situated in the picturesque Namib-Naukluft National Park, known for its iconic red sand dunes of the Namib contrasting against clear blue skies. These extraordinary dunes, reaching nearly 400 meters, rank among the tallest in the world. They are particularly captivating in the morning and evening light, attracting photographers worldwide. Sossusvlei hosts a variety of desert wildlife, including oryx, springbok, ostrich, and various reptiles. Day 2: NamibRand Nature Reserve (Namib Desert)
Dune 45 - Renowned Dune 45 is a stunning star dune that reaches over 170 meters in height. Those who are fit enough to climb the dune will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding Namibian desert.
Sesriem Canyon - Sossusvlei features sand dunes rising along both sides of the road. This iconic landscape consists of white plains and red dunes that majestically tower against a deep blue sky, ranking among the highest in the world.
Day 3: Sossusvlei to Swakopmund
Walvis Bay - Namibia is a land of contrasts. Today, the journey transitions from desert to sea, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and traversing the Gaub and Kuiseb passes. As the ascent from the dry riverbed at the bottom of Kuiseb Canyon begins, a spectacular desert landscape unfolds. A stopover in Walvis Bay offers the chance to enjoy the sight of flamingos and other birds in the lagoon and visit the salt works. Dinner at a local restaurant is included in the tour, with an overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 4: Swakopmund
Cape Cross - In the morning, a visit to the vast seal colony at Cape Cross, north of Swakopmund, is planned. Here, visitors can get up close to thousands of wild Cape fur seals and observe them in their natural habitat.
Swakopmund is a delightful seaside town characterized by German colonial architecture, palm-lined streets, excellent restaurants, numerous shops, and beautiful beaches. The rest of the day is free for exploration. The town offers plenty to do, including a good museum and aquarium. Various optional activities can also be arranged, such as a boat tour (with oysters and champagne), scenic flights, and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or a boat), quad-biking in the desert, and sandboarding. The guide will discuss all options and offer to make pre-bookings. Note that all extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are at the client’s own risk and expense.
