Highlights
  • Monastery Sevanavank - Monastery, situated on a rocky peninsula on Lake Sevan in Armenia, is a stunning example of medieval Armenian architecture. Originally, the peninsula was an island, separated from the shore by clear, fish-abundant waters. Monks arrived at the end of the 8th century, constructing a modest chapel and cells. Owing to its convenient location, the monastery expanded over time, with the addition of walls, watchtowers, churches, and other structures. In Middle Ages Sevanavank was a prominent historic-architectural complex, which besides the churches included constructions for different purposes (printing house, guest houses, warehouses, refectory, and so on). Sevanavank had the following churches: st. Astvatsamayr (Holy Virgin), st. Lusavorich (Enlightener), st. Hovhannes Mkrtich (John the Baptist) and st. Nshan; this names were used for the monastery for long years.

Great day out - I joint a group trip to lake Seven and Dilijan, with a group mixed of Russian and English speakers. We were lucky to have Anastasia as our guide, she speaks fluent English and Russian, and was extremely patient and knowledgeable when guiding us. The driver Vardan also made sure we had a smooth and safe trip. I find myself having enough free time at each stop, lunch was delicious as well. Overall a very enjoyable day trip, I would strongly recommend.

Perfect half-day trip on our first day - Visiting two monasteries and a medieval cemetery. We learned about the importance of cross stones in keeping Armenian culture, family, and history alive. Dinner by the lakeside of Lake Sevan was an extraordinary treat, with the best trout we had ever had! Our guide Hafik and driver Vahe were friendly, kind, cordial, and accommodating. We learned so much. A perfect half-day trip on the first day.
