Exploring Andalusia’s Hidden Gems: A Family Adventure from Seville to Ronda

When I heard about the “Seville to Ronda: Explore White Towns and Rock Houses” tour, I knew it was a must-do for my family. Join me as I share our delightful journey through Andalusia’s charming villages and breathtaking landscapes.

A Journey Through the White Villages

Our adventure began in the vibrant city of Seville, where we met our guide, Carlos, from Rutasur Andalusian Nature. As a family travel writer, I always seek out experiences that are both enriching and manageable for families with children. This small group tour promised just that, with its intimate setting and flexible itinerary. The minivan, accommodating only eight guests, allowed us to venture into the heart of the White Villages, places that larger tour buses simply couldn’t reach.

Our first stop was Zahara de la Sierra, a picturesque town nestled in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Known for its stunning views and charming streets, Zahara was a delight to explore. We took a leisurely stroll through the town, admiring the whitewashed buildings and the breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains. The kids were thrilled to climb the steps to the castle, where they could let their imaginations run wild, pretending to be knights and princesses. We paused for a coffee and breakfast at a local café, savoring the relaxed pace and the warm hospitality of the locals.

Discovering Setenil de las Bodegas

Next, we journeyed to Setenil de las Bodegas, a village unlike any other. Here, the homes are carved into the rock, creating a unique and magical atmosphere. The children were fascinated by the rock houses, and we spent time wandering the narrow streets, peeking into the shops and enjoying the local delicacies. Carlos, our guide, was wonderful in providing just enough information to spark our curiosity, while allowing us the freedom to explore at our own pace.

Setenil’s charm lies in its blend of history and natural beauty. The kids loved learning about the traditional lime-washing techniques used to maintain the village’s iconic white appearance. We even had the chance to visit a cave house, which was a highlight for the whole family. The experience was both educational and fun, making it a perfect stop for families looking to combine learning with adventure.

The Majestic Ronda

Our final destination was the historic town of Ronda, known for its dramatic cliffs and the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge. As we arrived, the views took our breath away. The kids were eager to explore, and we set off on foot to discover the town’s many attractions. From the Alameda del Tajo park to the Plaza de Toros, Ronda offered a wealth of sights to see and stories to uncover.

Carlos gave us ample time to wander and even suggested a few family-friendly spots for lunch. We chose a cozy restaurant with a view of the bridge, where we enjoyed a delicious meal while soaking in the stunning scenery. Although we didn’t have time to hike down to the base of the gorge, the kids were content with the views from above, and we promised ourselves a return visit to tackle the hike.

This tour was a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration, offering a glimpse into the rich culture and history of Andalusia. For families seeking a memorable and manageable adventure, I highly recommend this tour with Rutasur Andalusian Nature. Carlos’s friendly guidance and the tour’s thoughtful pacing made it an unforgettable experience for all of us.
