Situated along the Guadalquivir River in the heart of Seville, lies the ancient and esteemed monument known as the Monastery of Santa María de las Cuevas, or more commonly referred to as the Monastery of La Cartuja. This monastery, steeped in fascinating history, has seen over 600 years of activity, including its involvement in the Expo’92 events and serving as Christopher Columbus’s home. Originally in the 11th century, the building functioned as a pottery kiln factory, utilising the local clay. However, at present, it serves as the central office of the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art. During a visit, the ongoing transformation of the building over the centuries and the multitude of stories surrounding it can be witnessed.
