Highlights
  • Juma Mosque - On the way from Baku to Sheki we visit Juma Mosque in Shamakhi (or Friday Mosque) is one of the tourist attractions often visited by travellers. It is included into our Shamakhi and Gabala tour. Unlike many mosques, entrance to Juma Mosque of Shamakhi is permitted even to non-Muslims. To enter, you need to remove your shoes, but walking barefoot is not a problem, because the floor is covered with thick carpets.
In addition, women must cover their heads in order to enter the mosque, so they provide free head cover at the entrance, which is required to be returned at the exit.
  • Sheki Khan’s Palace - The Palace itself built in 1762 as a summer residence for the Khan of Sheki. During the construction of the building, no single nails and glues were used. From inside, all the walls of the Palace are full of paintings which each painting has its own philosophical meaning. In the garden outside of the palace, you will discover 2 plane trees that both are 500 years old.
  • Church of Kish - On the way, visit the first Albanian church in Caucasus, dating back to the 1st century AD. Kish Albanian Church - The brilliantly renovated round-towered Albanian church in pretty Kish village has been lovingly converted into a very well-presented trilingual museum. It’s the best place anywhere to learn about mysterious Caucasian Albania, the Chris-tian nation that once covered most of north-ern Azerbaijan.

Do not miss Sheki! - We had booked a customized weeklong trip with Guided Azerbaijan and planned several excursions with them. We had particularly outstanding service from Lamia in planning our trip and with our driver, Tahir, who was with us the entire time. We visited Sheki as an overnight stay and customized the drive there to include stops at Shamakhi to visit the mosque and for tea and qutab at a traditional roadside restaurant. Sheki is not to be missed when visiting Azerbaijan. It is a charming small city highlighted by the beautify Sheki Khan Palace. We had a very informative and enjoyable tour.

Sheki tour in October - We enjoyed our Sheki tour very much! The only thing I regreted a bit - there would be nice to have more time in that magical town. The trip was perfectly organized. I really enjoyed the communication with the Guided Azerbaijan office! Thank you guys for the flexibility and efforts to address all our requests! Everything went smoothly from the very beginning to the end of the trip.

Nice day trip to Sheki - We had a great time on the tour. Tahir was a great guide who explained everything to us about what we were seeing and answered our questions about Azerbaijan in general. Also just a very easygoing guy. The tour is a long day but it’s nice to see things outside Baku and the sites and local experiences in Sheki are a lot of fun.

Great family tour to Sheki with Guided Azerbaijan! - Great day trip! Driver and guide arrived always on time with a nice clean minivan.... We had a private family tour and visited Diribaba Mausoleum in Maraza, Shamakhi Juma Mosque, Sheki Khan's Palace, Caravanserai and Church of Kish. All the sights were very interesting and our tour guide was great, she gave us a lot of information about the sights. We also stopped by the roadside for some local tea and bread. The trip back to Baku was very nice next to the mountains. It was a very nice experience! It is a full day trip, definately worth it! Thanks for organising! I really recommend the tour with Guided Azerbaijan!

Worth it, fun and entertaining - We went from Baku, the journey is quite long but smooth. Parvana was really kind, helpful and caring. We stopped at the mosque, then to sheki palace and karvabsaray, the silk road journey was interesting. Parvana was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The road was under construction when we went there, she and the kind driver try as much as possible to go home with another alternative road to ensure our journey is comfortable. She even treat us tea and petal roses jam at the pretty albanian temple. Overall the journey was great. Thank you Parvana, big hugs from both of us

Ridiculous 9+ hour drive “tour” - This product or itinerary doesn’t make any sense to start with so can’t really blame the guide/driver for a terrible overall experience. Sheki is a lovely town with interesting history and beautiful historical constructions. Unfortunately the drive from and back to Baku with current road conditions on the same day is a nightmare. It takes more than 4.5 hours one-way so we had a 13-hour day with majority of the time on the road. Other unpleasant minor details including: car with no seat belts in the back seat, reckless driving (almost collided with another car), expensive suggested restaurant for lunch, frequent restroom stops but really smoke breaks for the guide (we took a bathroom break and then went to get gas soon after, why can’t we combine the two? Cuz you can’t smoke), etc. Highly recommend to spend a night in and spend more time in Sheki. Many historical buildings have their own guides and they were all great! Only book this tour if you have a super tight schedule and Sheki is on your bucket list.
