Highlights
  • Zhujiajiao Ancient Town - Your tour guide will meet you at the airport exit at 08:30 a.m. or upon your arrival. Then, you’ll be transferred to Zhujiajiao to begin the layover tour. Known as the ‘Venice of Shanghai,’ Zhujiajiao is the best-preserved of the four ancient water towns in the Shanghai area. With a history spanning over 1,700 years, Zhujiajiao boasts charming canals, narrow alleys, scenic bridges, and ancient buildings, many from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The best way to explore Zhujiajiao is on foot and by boat. We will leisurely stroll through 1,700 years of history on a boat tour of this enchanting water town. We will visit landmarks such as Kezhi Garden, the Qing-period post office, the City God Temple, and Yuanjin Temple. The Zhujiajiao post office is the earliest in east China and the only well-preserved Qing dynasty post office in the region. At noon, we will enjoy a local specialty for lunch. After lunch, we will transfer to downtown Shanghai to visit several iconic attractions. - Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - We will head to People’s Square to visit the Shanghai Museum and learn about the rich history and culture of Shanghai. Located in the heart of Shanghai in People’s Square, the Shanghai Museum is a large museum of ancient Chinese art. Its design and presentation immerse visitors in artifacts that showcase ancient wisdom and philosophy. The exterior design, featuring a round dome and a square base, symbolizes the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. The museum is divided into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls. The eleven galleries cover most major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities. You will also see many scenic spots around People’s Square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion and the Shanghai Grand Theater. - Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road) - Nanjing Road is considered the ‘No. 1 commercial street in China’ and has been a city landmark for a long time. Along its 5.5 kilometers, you will find over 600 shops, attracting an average of 1.7 million visitors each day. You can also explore the surrounding neighborhoods and visit the thinnest building on Ningbo Road, known as the Paper Building (纸片楼). This building was once featured in the British Daily Mail as perhaps the world’s flattest and thinnest building. Viewed diagonally from the front, it looks like a piece of paper. The old house has four floors and is not entirely thin; it is shaped like a triangular polygon. This unique building still houses many residents. Next, we will transfer to Pudong New Area to admire some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers, such as the Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower, and Jin Mao Tower. - Pudong New Area - As a vibrant district, Pudong offers visitors modern attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, all featuring the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion. We will walk along the Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers. - Shanghai World Financial Center - Located in the heart of Lujiazui in Pudong and adjacent to the Shanghai Tower and Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC) is currently the second tallest skyscraper in the city. The structure resembles a bottle opener, which is also its nickname. For tourists, it is a popular attraction featuring sightseeing observatories and the Park Hyatt Hotel. Three observation decks offer different experiences on the 94th, 97th, and 100th floors. The 100th floor is the highest observatory in the world, with transparent glass-walled walkways. Here, you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Shanghai. If the weather is clear, you might witness a spectacular sunset. Afterwards, we will provide a comfortable transfer back to the airport for your flight. Cherish your memories and bid farewell.
