A history tour with amazing features - The history of the places we visited was amazing. Our tour guide Tom had an amazing memory for facts. A pity we couldn’t take in all the dates and facts. Needed a print out to go along with the many photos I took.

Amazing day - Tom was our guide and he did a fantastic job. His english was excellent and his energy great for the whole tour. He was very knowledgeable not only with what we visited but also he answered all the questions about living in Shanghai (he’s a local) and current affairs.
Lunch was very good and abundant.
We also visited a silk factory which was very interesting and a great opportunity to get real pure silk everything. Worth the visit.
I definitely recommend taking this tour on your first day in Shanghai cause it gives you a very good perspective of the city and next day/s you can choose to go back to your favorite spots.

Excellent Day Tour - Small Group - Excellent tour with Tom. Very knowledgeable. Just the right amount of commentary then you get some time to explore each location before moving to the next place. Quite a bit of driving between locations which is ok because you get to look at the city. A fair amount of walking so wear good shoes and dress for the season. Very hot and humid in September. Lunch was great. Nothing too scary for a westerner.
We started at 8am and was back at hotel around 3.30pm but we were only a group of 3 so larger groups may take a little longer.
Silk ‘factory’ at the end is a little bit of a hard sell but you don’t need to buy anything. Don’t feel obligated !

Good overview of Shanghai - Good overview of Shanghai in general. Is a well organised itinerary. Could slow down a bit though for us to enjoy the ambience and sights.

time for tourist traps, but not to enjoy important areas - This was supposed to be a tour of “best of Shanghai”—a visit to major sites for visitors to see the city. Yet we wasted an hour at a factory store, that was not part of the description of the tour on the website. When I called the representative before booking, I was specifically told there would be no such “activities”. Also wasted an hour on a very mediocre sit-down lunch. The result was that there was no time to actually spend a little time to enjoy other places we were taken. (For example, we could have had time to *walk* at the Bund, which is why people go there—vs. be taken there, stand in one spot while the guide talked, and then be rushed away without experiencing it). Infuriating to lose 2 hrs of my only day to see Shanghai with a factory store and lunch at a tourist trap. Viator can and should do better by its customers

Bad experience - Very poor service from the tour operator , Shanghai is very hot during the summer and doing the tour with a vehicle with bad Air Conditioner was unacceptable it seemed that the guide was in a hurry not giving us enough time to enjoy the tour , with other companies that offer the same service i think is time to change , this was the second time in less than 10 days that Viator did wrong and we didn't get the value for what we paid for.
