Additional Information

You’ll learn the craft of creating traditional Japanese sweets known as Nerikiri. To begin, I’ll provide a demonstration, after which you’ll be tasked with sculpting three distinct shapes of your own design, resulting in a total of four unique pieces. Nerikiri is elegantly straightforward, comprising white bean paste, shiratama flour, sugar, and water.
Subsequently, we will prepare matcha together.
Our workshop takes place in my residence, offering you a unique glimpse into the daily lives of Japanese people. My home is situated in the trendy Omotesando area, a mere 3-minute walk from the nearest train station. From here, it’s just an 8-minute journey to Harajuku, and a short 10-minute trip to both the Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park.

Amazing time in our first experience in Japan. - This was our first visit to Japan, we picked this activity to get an insiders perspective and start with something calm. It was a perfect choice. We loved it, we loved the host and it was so tasty and cute. We would like to say thank you one more for inviting us in your home.

Must do this when in Tokyo! - My four year old daughter and I loved this experience! We were able to choose nerikiri designs to make, such as cherry blossoms and Sanrio characters, from a large variety of selections. Hana, our teacher, made the process of making nerikiri very easy for us to follow even for those without experience and for young children who can focus on a task for at least an hour. After the activity, you can take a short walk to Harajuku for shopping, food, or transportation access.

A wonderful experience!! - I loved this class! The instructor, Hana, is excellent, and her home is beautiful! I have to admit that I was probably her worst student: clumsy, unimaginative, totally not artistic, and unskilled. Hana patiently explained and demonstrated each step along the way, corrected my errors, and gave me time to absorb my new knowledge. After making the first three sweets with input from Hana, I made the last one on my own. I definitely recommend this class. I fact, I wish I could've brought my grandchildren with me - I know they would've loved it, and their creations would've been much better than my own!

Super fun, unique and memorable experience! - Making mochi together as a family and hearing Hana's recommendations for things to do was so fun and memorable. The setting of doing it in her house in Japan was great. It was an unforgettable and unique experience. We had a great time and would highly recommend it to others.

Great experience! - Beautifully organized and explained! I should have asked Hana about the history of nerikiri, I’m sure she’s super knowledgeable as she’s an historian.

Relaxing and interesting experience - I had an amazing time learning how to make these sweets which have interested me since my last trip to Japan. The host was very gracious having me in her lovely home. The location was easy to find and in an iconic area I enjoyed exploring afterwards. I got to take home 4 sweets and enjoyed matcha and other traditional goodies from around Japan. Highly recommended

Fun and memorable experience - We really enjoyed making the nerikiri and learning about the tea ceremony. Hana was a skilled and friendly teacher. We started by picking a few designs based on Hana's advice on what might be most beginner-friendly, and then made them using ingredients that she had prepared and portioned out for each individual for convenience. Making the nerikiri consisted of basic assembly, gentle hand molding, and use of a few wooden/bamboo tools to imprint specific features. It takes a bit of a delicate touch to get a refined product and we weren't always successful, but we had a lot of fun throughout the process and honestly found our more humorous outcomes to be more endearing in a way. Afterwards, we participated in a tea ceremony that was accompanied by a variety of snacks. Very cool to learn about all of the nuances of that process. Highly recommend as an overall fun, hands-on, and educational experience.

Wonderful Lesson! - My husband and I took this lesson! It was very fun. We made 4 different Nerikiri, learned how to perform the tea ceremony, and tried several Japanese treats! The instructors English was very good, so definitely feel welcome to book this if you don't speak any Japanese!
