Excellent Tokyo Photography Session - Awesome session with Karl on a wet night in Tokyo. With Karl’s expert guidance we captured some interesting images around Shinbuya. This is our second Aperture Tour and I can highly recommend them.

I highly recommend this tour! - We had a fabulous night and learned a lot. Our teacher, Karl, has loads of experience, shares his knowledge effectively, and is friendly. Our photography skills have improved dramatically as a result of our tour with him, and we saw some interesting places in Tokyo we would not have seen without him, as well as learned about Japanese culture. We received a survey in advance so the tour could be customized to us and our time was dialed in and efficient. This is a great way to spend time at night in Tokyo, taking in the scene differently than one usually does when simply going out at night or going from point a to point b for a set purpose. We are heading home with some really unique street photos too! My only regret is not doing this sooner in my trip!!

Great Guided Night Tour to the Perfect Spots! - Tim was our guide and did a great job making our evening a fantastic experience! He guided us to perfect spots and helped with suggested camera settings and techniques. There is nothing like an experienced local photographer to help make the most out your shooting evening! The communication on meeting point, and day of event confirmation was just right. We moved a pace comfortable to us, not just our guide. We highly recommend this tour!

Do it. - Tim was amazing, great teacher, super patient. It was a fantastic learning experience. I strongly recommend it, he adapted his route to my wants and needs. I was only surprised that the break we took to eat was on the time allowed for the tour, but it didn’t affect the fun I had that day. Thanks Tim for everything!

Great experience! - This tour was awesome. My pro was Tim and he helped me understand and achieve some specific styles of shots. His ability to explain the when, how and why of my settings in manual mode, combined with following his teaching immediately after, helped immensely. He knew lots of great places to really capture Tokyo at night. I highly recommend this tour to anyone at any level, you won’t be disappointed. **didn’t upload photos due to trip advisors policy that basically allows them ownership of the photos.

Neon nights - Ivan is a fantastic guide. Patient, knowledgeable , and a great sense of humor. Prior to this tour I had very little experience with photography, but thanks to Ivan, I am far more confident with my camera and how to compose an image. We through several locations and all were amazing to photograph. I highly recommend this tour especially for someone new to photography.

Time well spent - My tour was with Ivan, who is a super-talented photographer local photographer. We walked through several parts of Tokyo. He educated me on dynamic street photography and boosted my confidence as a photographer and a comedian. I learned a lot and would do it again.

Stellar Tokyo Street Storytelling - My tour with Ivan was an amazing experience. He is an expert in the craft and helped me get the most out of my vacation in Japan. Ivan has an encyclopedic knowledge of the most opportune places to stand (and at what times) to get the best photographs. He also is a master at capturing movement. Moreover, he helped me to embrace a part of the city that I would have never ventured solo. Don’t go to Tokyo without booking a tour with Ivan.

Even idiots can do this tour :P - Had a night tour of Tokyo with Tim on 7th May 2023. It was a rainy and rather miserable day which was fantastic for shooting. I only had my iPhone 14 Pro Max and they accomdated. I must seem like quite clueless when it comes to photography but Tim never made me feel dumb and was more than happy to guide me through the basics. I mean, even though I've read up on terms and whatnot, they did not sink in till the hands on session. Tim patiently explained optical and digital zoom, aspect ratio and the different camera options on the iphone and how they can affect the outcome. It was really eye-opening for someone who is just used to point and shoot with zero thought. I suppose if I had to narrow down the biggest takeaway of the night, it would be the beauty of 16:9 and being daring enough to take photos from different angles, to put yourself out there - nobody is going to get offended as long as you do you quietly without being obnoxious. Throughout the session, he was very encouraging and that certainly helped. I mean, some of my photos looked bad to me but he was able to point out the good in them. That really kept me going and as the night wore on, I got more comfortable with shooting. I had an issue with my iPhone not charging and requested that he bring along a power bank (just in case) which he did not make a big deal of. I really appreciated that. We started in Shibuya (where he showed me some great spots) and ended off in Shinjuku in the Kabukicho and Golden Gai area. I had a wonderful time on the tour and would certainly do it again at the next opportunity.

Proceed Cautiously - Careful with this company. They’re using AI rather than human artists to write their social media posts. For a company that exists to support artists in creativity and expression this choice devalues human engagement and skills. Further, their practice of removing comments from their platforms sparks concerns regarding their transparency, openness, and business ethics. The tour we took in Tokyo in February was fun as a walk around and provided us a chance to see locales we otherwise might have missed, but it fell short in providing any technical growth. Be ready to proceed independently using the knowledge you have. You’re going out with a guide to take pictures who will also be taking pictures. There was little in the way of constructive feedback or technical suggestions. We leveraged our existing skills and knowledge rather than growing them which led to a disappointing overall experience.
