- National Palace Museum - Meet the tour guide at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, then embark on a short journey to the first stop of the full-day tour in Taipei: the National Palace Museum, one of the largest museums globally.
With a collection of nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, the museum presents 8,000 years of Chinese art history across various dynasties. Two of the most renowned pieces on display are “the Jadeite Cabbage” and “the Meat-Shaped Stone,” which are must-sees at the National Palace Museum.
- Dihua Street - Following the museum visit, the tour continues to Dadaocheng, a nostalgic area where tradition meets modernity. The retro cafes and shops in the streets and alleys enhance the nostalgic atmosphere, making it a popular destination for trendsetters.
The heart of Dadaocheng is Dihua Street, once the most prosperous area in Taipei over a century ago. Even today, it remains a popular spot for purchasing dried goods and herbal medicines. Each year, the Chinese New Year Street Bazaar takes place on Dihua Street, bustling with people preparing for the new year.
Currently, the streets and alleys are lined with traditional shops, alongside chic cafés and mini art galleries housed in well-preserved historical buildings, exuding a vintage vibe.
- Yongle Textile Market - The tour will pass by Yongle Market, Taipei’s largest textile market. During free time, explore the endless array of materials, from traditional Taiwanese prints to imported Japanese designs.
- Taipei Xiahai City God Temple - Situated in historic Dadaocheng, Taipei Xiahai City God Temple is a centuries-old temple dedicated to the City God. It is a must-visit for those seeking blessings and cultural experiences. The most famous deity is Yue Lao, the Chinese matchmaker god, believed to help singles find love. The temple also hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, offering a glimpse into traditional Taiwanese culture.
- Ximending - After exploring significant historic sites in Taipei, gain a good understanding of the city’s history and development. The next stop showcases the modernity and diversity of Taipei City.
Proceed to Ximending Commercial District, one of the busiest shopping areas in Taipei, filled with retail shops, restaurants, bars, and street performers. This area is very popular among young people, often referred to as the Taipei version of Tokyo’s Harajuku’s Takeshita Street. (lunch on your own arrangement)
- Longshan Temple - After lunch in Ximending, visit Lungshan Temple to experience Taiwan’s religious practices, where locals go to pray for good luck or find inner peace.
The temple, built in 1738 and dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy), was severely damaged during the Taipei Air Raid, but the statue of Guanyin survived.
Besides the Goddess of Mercy, the temple honors Yue Lao (the Matchmaker God), Wenchang Dijun (the God of Literature), Songzi Niangniang (the maiden who brings children), and many more. Visitors can pray for themselves and their families, and even seek advice from the gods by tossing divination blocks.
- Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall - Proceed to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, an impressive monument in memory of the late President Chiang Kai-shek. The changing of the guard ceremony occurs every hour on the hour from 09:00 in the main hall.
- Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Park - Besides the majestic main hall of the memorial, the exquisite Chinese garden surrounding the building and the vast plaza are also worth exploring. Early morning visitors can observe people practicing Qigong.
- Taipei 101 - The final stop of the tour is Taipei 101 Mall, a paradise for fashion enthusiasts, located on the eastern side of Taipei. The mall features hundreds of fashionable stores and restaurants, along with a food court and a supermarket. From luxury brands to fast fashion retailers, and from Michelin star restaurants to affordable eats, there is something for everyone.
The famous skyscraper, Taipei 101, stands adjacent to the mall. Once the tallest building in the world, it reaches a height of 508 meters, towering over Taipei’s skyline. The building has 101 stories, with an observatory deck on the 89th floor, offering a panoramic view of Taipei City. Additionally, it boasts one of the top 3 fastest elevators in the world; traveling from the 5th to the 89th floor takes only 37 seconds.
At the end of the tour, choose to disembark at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station (arriving around 17:10) or Raohe Street Tourist Night Market (arriving around 17:00).
