- National Palace Museum - Begin the tour by meeting the guide at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, followed by a short journey to the first destination of the full-day Taipei tour: the National Palace Museum, renowned as one of the largest museums globally.
With an impressive collection of nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, the museum presents 8,000 years of Chinese art history across various dynasties. Among the most celebrated pieces are “the Jadeite Cabbage” and “the Meat-Shaped Stone,” which are must-see exhibits at the National Palace Museum.
- Dihua Street - Following the museum visit, the tour proceeds to Dadaocheng, a charming area where tradition meets modernity. The retro cafes and shops in the streets and alleys enhance the nostalgic ambiance, making it a trendy spot for visitors.
Dadaocheng’s heart is Dihua Street, which was the most bustling area in Taipei over a century ago. Today, it remains a popular place to shop for dried goods and herbal medicines. Annually, the Chinese New Year Street Bazaar occurs on Dihua Street, drawing crowds preparing for the new year.
Currently, the streets and alleys are lined with traditional shops, alongside chic cafés and mini art galleries housed in well-preserved historical buildings, exuding a vintage charm.
- Yongle Textile Market - The tour includes a walk past Yongle Market, Taipei’s largest textile market. During free time, explore a vast array of materials, from traditional Taiwanese prints to imported Japanese designs.
- Taipei Xiahai City God Temple - Situated in historic Dadaocheng, Taipei Xiahai City God Temple is a centuries-old temple dedicated to the City God. It is a must-visit for those seeking blessings and cultural experiences. The most renowned deity is Yue Lao, the Chinese matchmaker god, believed to assist singles in finding love. The temple also hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, offering insights into traditional Taiwanese culture.
- North Gate - The historical theme of the tour continues with a visit to Taipei City Wall-North Gate (Cheng’en Gate). This grand and impressive fortress gate is one of the five historic city gates in Taipei built during the Qing Dynasty, along with the East Gate (Jingfu Gate), West Gate (Baocheng Gate), South Gate (Lizheng Gate), and Lesser South Gate (Chongxi Gate).
- Ximending - After exploring significant historic sites in Taipei, gain a deeper understanding of the city’s history and development. The next stop showcases the modernity and diversity of Taipei City.
Proceed to Ximending Commercial District, one of Taipei’s busiest shopping areas, filled with retail shops, restaurants, bars, and street performers. This area is very popular among young people, earning it the nickname “Taipei’s version of Tokyo’s Harajuku’s Takeshita Street.” (lunch on your own arrangement)
- Longshan Temple - After lunch in Ximending, visit Lungshan Temple to experience Taiwan’s religious practices, where locals pray for good luck or inner peace.
Built in 1738 and dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy), the temple was severely damaged during the Taipei Air Raid, but the statue of Guanyin survived.
Besides the Goddess of Mercy, the temple honors Yue Lao (the Matchmaker God), Wenchang Dijun (the God of Literature), Songzi Niangniang (the maiden who brings children), and many more. Visitors can pray for themselves and their families and even seek advice from the gods by tossing divination blocks.
- Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall - The tour continues to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, an impressive monument honoring the late President Chiang Kai-shek. The changing of the guard ceremony occurs every hour on the hour from 09:00 in the main hall.
- Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Park - Beyond the majestic main hall, the exquisite Chinese garden surrounding the building and the vast plaza are also worth exploring. Early morning visitors can often see people practicing Qigong.
- Taipei 101 - The final stop of the tour is Taipei 101 Mall, a paradise for fashion enthusiasts, located on the eastern side of Taipei. The mall features hundreds of fashionable stores and restaurants, along with a food court and a supermarket. From luxury brands to fast fashion retailers, and from Michelin-starred restaurants to affordable eats, there is something for everyone.
The iconic skyscraper, Taipei 101, stands adjacent to the mall. Once the tallest building in the world, it reaches a height of 508 meters, dominating Taipei’s skyline. The building has 101 stories, with an observatory deck on the 89th floor, offering a panoramic view of Taipei City. Additionally, it boasts one of the top 3 fastest elevators globally; traveling from the 5th to the 89th floor takes only 37 seconds.
At the tour’s conclusion, choose to disembark at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station (arriving around 17:10) or Raohe Street Tourist Night Market (arriving around 17:00).
