Well worth a visit to this tourist attraction - The visit was very interesting with plenty to see and read about life behind bars. Quite a big site to get around and the handout map was useful. I would have liked to have seen more directional information inside and on the doors as we could really have missed some of the Sara's. Examples would be the door to the railway track area. Directions to the chapel from the jail floor would be helpful. But even so, the visit was very enjoyable and would recommend a visit.

Definitely worth going very interesting and it offers some amazing opportunities of tours and experiences too! - It’s a very interesting few hours roaming around a empty prison and shut in 2013. You see all the prison and the process in that prison and the history cell layouts too. I found the prison great fun interactive and they also do other experiences tours and others that sound and have heard are great to experience.

A great insight into life behind bars - and you're free to leave afterwards! - What an amazing insight into what life was like behind bars in Shrewsbury prison throughout the years. And it was no holiday camp, thats for sure, even if you could have a PlayStation and TV in the latter years! Very well signposted, the self guided tour leaves you able to wander the halls and wings at will with very informative displays explaining what each area you come across was for.

A fantastic visit - A fantastic visit. A cheerful, helpful welcome. Good amount of information and so much space to explore. Audio guides were good to have too. We were unsure about where to exit. Staff were helpful but perhaps some additional signage to reassure visitors that they are heading in the right direction. Thank you to the whole team at Shrewsbury Prison.

An unusual day out, for sure! - My brothers and I have been wanting to visit for ages. We opted for the self-tour, as we wanted to control the time we spent there, rather than being restricted by a guide or a group. You can easily spend all day in there. There's so much to see, from nosing inside real cells to get a feel for life 'on the inside', to reading the fascinating facts dotted around on the walls. And, of course, there's the padded cell and the execution room! I was just slightly disappointed in two aspects: The gift shop is housed in the admittance room and they haven't been overly imaginative in the range for sale. Took me back to my school days of erasers, rulers, pens, pencils and bookmarks! And I didn't see any brochures for sale when we visited, and these are a staple for any tourist attraction. The entry fee for the basic, self-guided tour is high at £15 per person unless you're a family with children or a pensioner. Fees rise from there. An unusual, but nonetheless highly enjoyable day out!
