Fabulous! - This is somewhere we had always wanted to do, and we weren't disappointed! We did the self-guided tour, but would probably do the guided one if we went again. Even with the self-guided one, there is plenty of information on the walls to explain everything. It was fascinating, and sometimes shocking, to read about the prisoners. The staff were lovely and very helpful in getting my disabled daughter upstairs. They even provide folding chairs that can be carried around so there is somewhere to sit if people are unable to walk far, or stand. We thoroughly recommend a visit.

Our Visit to the Shrewsbury Prison - As soon as you walk in you are meet with very lovely people so so friendly and make you feel very welcome. It was interesting to see how small the cells were with no washing or toilet facilities. Overall a great experience with the staff so helpful and very informative.

1st visit and it was great! - As a local resident from Telford, I have never been in Shrewsbury prison (thank goodness!). It was a great visit and the staff were so helpful as we got a bit mixed up as it wasn't obvious which doors you could open which took you out to the exercise yards. There are guided tours which we didn't do,just with having nosey children who wanted to look around but a guard was great who engaged with one of our children but in a fun way. Tip: It was actually great to visit on a hot day as it was so cool inside!

Highly recommended a visit - Such an interesting and informative afternoon. We highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. We didn’t do the guided tour but was able to learn so much from the information around the prison.

Grim reality - Just so so interesting , made you aware of the grimness of a Victorian prison, shocking that water and elec wasn’t put into the cells until the 1960’s, seeing the trap door where the hangings happened was chilling. Overall a great experience

Guided or Self guided - This was our third visit. First visit was just my husband and I and the guided tour was perfect. Lots of information and personal stories. On our second visit we did another guided tour with two of our grandchildren but they were bored because the pace was slow. On our third visit with two of our other grandchildren we did the self guided tour and they loved it. They could stay as long or as short as they wanted in different cells and could ask questions without disturbing others. So my recommendation is the guided tour is fantastic for adults and the self guided tour is perfect if you have younger children. Also the lady in the gift shop was lovely xxx

Well worth a visit! - Great few hours out, could move around the prison at our own pace. In hindsight would have booked a guided tour for more information, though posters and pictures on the walls. Well worth the money!
