Beautiful - One of the most beautiful churches in Italy, and it's all to say.... The floor is something absolutely unique! Too bad they cover it for most of the year

4.5 star review - We have purchased the combi tickets of 21 euros per person. Means you can visit the cathedral, associated library (same building), the crypt (was not worth it), baptistery, museum including facade overlooking cathedral (highly recommended) and get a tour in upper part of the cathedral. The latter is with a guide but much is not told. You mainly see the cathedral from the top floor and partly from the outside. However, was definitely worth the few euros extra. Cathedral in itself is also really beautiful both inside and out.

A Gothic Romanesque gem - Built in Romanesque-Gothic style, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, Duomo di Siena , is one of the most beautiful and fascinating churches built in this style. The Cathedral is characterized by four towers, one of which constitutes the bell tower.

Wonderful Cathedral - I have just returned from a guided tour of the Cathedral of Siena, carried out during the period of extraordinary discovery of its floor. The Duomo is a masterpiece of Italian art. It represents a very high example of Italian Romanesque-Gothic style. From 1300 to 1800, the major artists succeeded one another to decorate the Cathedral, including Donatello, Michelangelo and Bernini. The church preserves valuable stained glass windows and the fourteenth-century choir. Inside you can visit the Piccolomini Library with the cycle of frescoes by Pinturicchio. But the most precious element of the Duomo is its floor that remains covered for most of the year to preserve the preciousness of the decorations. The floor is revealed only twice a year for a few weeks. The floor consists of 56 marble inlays that have wisdom as their common thread. Really wonderful. To be visited during periods of uncovering the floor and, possibly, with Guide.

Oh my goodness, what a stunning cathedral! - Being part of an organised tour off a P&O cruise, our guide already had our tickets, so entry was very easy. The first thing you notice is the enormity and attention to detail by the people who designed and built this religious structure. The floor has recently been uncovered, which allows you to see the spectacular marble. The place is definitely worth a visit if you are visiting the beautiful Sienna.

Excellent duomo that is a must visit - We have seen a number of duomos during our travels but this one would have to be one of the best. Architecturally the design is excellent and internally it is fascinating and full of history. We would put it down as a must visit when in Siena. The tour we got for the price of the ticket was excellent

Spectacular - The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a 13th century building, built in Romanesque-Gothic Italian style. The interior is dominated by black and white two-tone and houses many masterpieces such as the pulpit of Pisano, the Piccoloni altar with four statues by Michelangelo, the Piccolomi library frescoed by Pinturicchio that collects literary works chosen by Pius II. The most spectacular work is certainly the floor (discovered only at certain times of the year) to marble salesmen that is divided into 56 panels representing revelation. Very interesting is the path the door to heaven that allows you to visit the interior of the cathedral from above and for short stretches even with views of the outside. Entrance to the cathedral is charged with differentiated tickets that can be purchased on site or online (recommended).

The Duomo is wonderful, but the staff is rude - The Duomo is wonderful, like the baptistery, the museum, the crypt and sky door. Unfortunately the staff is not up to this beauty, especially the crypt entrance attendant who literally attacked us for opening the door as you literally have to run otherwise the sunbeam disturbs her peace. We were not aware that the athletics Olympics were taking place in Siena, we thought they had ended in Paris. The aggressiveness of the museum staff is a common feature of many museums in the Tuscany region.
