Oh my goodness, what a stunning cathedral! - Being part of an organised tour off a P&O cruise, our guide already had our tickets, so entry was very easy.
The first thing you notice is the enormity and attention to detail by the people who designed and built this religious structure.
The floor has recently been uncovered, which allows you to see the spectacular marble.
The place is definitely worth a visit if you are visiting the beautiful Sienna.

Excellent duomo that is a must visit - We have seen a number of duomos during our travels but this one would have to be one of the best. Architecturally the design is excellent and internally it is fascinating and full of history. We would put it down as a must visit when in Siena. The tour we got for the price of the ticket was excellent

A really impressive cathedral - Firstly, I would like to recommend an online
ticket.
Then you should see these highlights:
The magnificent stone floor, the library of
Piccolomini, the crypt, the museum and of
course the impressive observation platform.

Must-See in Siena - Let's start with my favorite sight in Siena. The Duomo, which is a must-see. You should plan some time for the visit because there are countless art treasures to marvel at. My tip for you, buy the ticket with the name Opa Si Pass. This ticket gives you access to all areas. You can buy your ticket at the office in front of the Duomo or online in advance.
Even from the outside, this building is incredibly beautiful, but what I encountered inside totally impressed me. A special feature of the Siena Cathedral is its floor. It consists of ornate marble slabs - a unique work of art worldwide. It took an incredible six centuries to complete. Through the main entrance of the cathedral, you reach the next sight, the Biblioteca Piccolomini, located in a side wing. It has beautiful drawings on the walls. Diagonally opposite the cathedral museum, you can enter the crypt via a separate entrance on the eastern side of the cathedral. Curiously, this was only discovered in 1999 during a renovation. The Museo dell'Opera della Metropolitana, or simply known as the Cathedral Museum, is located right next to the cathedral in the Duomo. This museum, which was founded in 1869, is an exhibition of collected original works from the cathedral.

Beauty for the eyes - Beautiful Duomo considered with one of the most beautiful mosaic floors ever discovered and restored. Columns, windows, chests of drawers, paintings, everything is the essence of Art.

Spectacular tour. - Cara was the best. We entered through a private entrance, absolutely no wait. Had our own private areas inside and exclusive roof top viewing 3/4 of the way up. Cara was friendly, patient, and knew the history well. This is a must do tour with Cara.

The umpteenth wonder.... to better control - Thank you for this extra opening, which allowed me to see this absolute wonder. I will not comment beyond what is plain for all to see: pure Art. A work that has no equal. NOT TO BE BELIEVED.I want to point out how, at the entrance, the female visitors (mostly foreigners in beach clothes) were given a simple shawl with which to cover at least their shoulders. In the vast majority of our churches people are allowed to enter discrete .. a shame, when compared to what is rightly required in other states (Greeks and Muslims above all). Not so much care I must say about the men: some of them walked around the Duomo with their hats on their heads, without the many overseers scattered around the aisles finding anything to complain about. More respect, excellence, more respect.

Spectacular - The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a 13th century building, built in Romanesque-Gothic Italian style. The interior is dominated by black and white two-tone and houses many masterpieces such as the pulpit of Pisano, the Piccoloni altar with four statues by Michelangelo, the Piccolomi library frescoed by Pinturicchio that collects literary works chosen by Pius II. The most spectacular work is certainly the floor (discovered only at certain times of the year) to marble salesmen that is divided into 56 panels representing revelation.
Very interesting is the path the door to heaven that allows you to visit the interior of the cathedral from above and for short stretches even with views of the outside.
Entrance to the cathedral is charged with differentiated tickets that can be purchased on site or online (recommended).

The Duomo is wonderful, but the staff is rude - The Duomo is wonderful, like the baptistery, the museum, the crypt and sky door. Unfortunately the staff is not up to this beauty, especially the crypt entrance attendant who literally attacked us for opening the door as you literally have to run otherwise the sunbeam disturbs her peace. We were not aware that the athletics Olympics were taking place in Siena, we thought they had ended in Paris. The aggressiveness of the museum staff is a common feature of many museums in the Tuscany region.
