Chianti - Great time visiting Agricola Poggi ai Laghi in Monteriggioni & Mirco Pianigiani in the Chianti region. Our guide Marco was enthusiastic despite his broken English & played Frank Sinatra while we drove from Siena to Castellina in Chianti in comfy clean van. Unfortunately we had to cut visit to Monteriggioni short because of a huge electrical storm on the way back to Siena....all in all a fun afternoon! 🍷

We had a great time. The... - We had a great time. The driver told us history about the area, the different wines and vineyards. We unfortunately had a very rainy overcast day but still managed to thoroughly enjoyed it. Our driver was very nice. I sadly do not know his name, but he told us his nickname as a child was Swords. Super nice man.

Excellent tour of beautiful wineries and castle - We thoroughly enjoyed this small group tour. We visited two lovely wineries in Monterregioni where we tasted some wonderful wines. We also visited Castellina in Chianti (small museum) and then medieval village in the Tuscany hills.

Chianti-now a wonderful memory to cherish! - We had a wonderful guide/driver who was both very knowledgeable and also very aware of our needs and interests. He has a great history background and so weaved a story of the Chianti region from Etruscan times to the 300 year war between Florence and Siena to modern times. He was also very friendly and kind. Our fellow travelers were a delightful three generations family-nana, her daughter, and her daughter’s son! We bonded in no time! The wine tours were delightful because the wineries were beautiful, the table layouts were beautiful and both wine “guides” were very entertaining and provided a fun experience for each of us. Our driver/guide took us on back roads some of the time so we could sense the rugged terrain and really experience the land. Both fortified cities with castles (Castilini and another) were delightful. And, at every turn of our drive we had spectacular views of the vineyards, cypresses, olive tree groves, sheep in pasture-all of the beautiful scenery that we’d only experienced through photos! A day to remember!

Enjoyable experience overall - The first wine tasting stop was good but the second seemed rushed and could have done with some snacks to go with the wine. The other negative point was that it was not really a small group tour - there were about 30 people split over 4 vans so you travelled in a small group and became a big group at each stop!

A nice low key experience. 5 hours . Just enough - The visit to Castellina, a charming village. The first stop to a modern winery provided ample tasting , and a very light light snack. The second winery was charming but by then we were starving for at least a chunk of cheese. Nada.

Castles? - This was a delightful way to spend the afternoon in the Italian countryside. We started out driving through some beautiful winding roads and stopping at panoramic overlook. We also visited a couple of tiny villages and two different wineries. The first winery was more of a business and we had a lovely spread of several different wines to sip, and balsamic and oil along with some bread and meat to try. The second winery was a small family run winery was proud of his operation as he showed us around. Our driver was very capable and got us safely from place to place even in the middle of a rainstorm. Unfortunately, he gave us very little information about where we were, or where we were going. Twice he dropped at the entrance to a town and said nothing more than what time he would be picking us up. We NEVER saw a castle, even though the name of this tour led us to believe we would see some. Mostly, we just wandered aimlessly around, looking for a castle that we never found and trying to be back at the bus in time. Also, at the second winery, they had a family with the two small, very noisy children join our group and it made it hard to hear the owner talking about his wines. Overall, it was a fun experience, but definitely with room for improvement.

Don't waste your money or time. Bad guide and bad customer service. - We did the Chianti & Castle tour with Julio (?) and it was pretty bad. The driver/guide “lost his voice” so he played a 2 minute recording of the itinerary and then barely spoke English for the English speaking tour we booked. He pointed out “grapes and olives” and a few other general obvious things and seemed to be depending on me to try to translate his minimal notes to the group. Throughout the tour his voice seemed to return, but he didn’t have much to add or tell us. When he did drop us off at tour stops his instructions and meet up points/times were vague. He didn’t seem to know where he was going or the itinerary and we arrived behind the 2 other groups each stop. In Monteriggioni he dropped the group off at the bottom of a fairly large hill when there was another parking area much closer to the top of the hill. It took about 15 mins to walk up the hill, so we only had a few mins at the top. We arrived at Fattoria Lornano and sat in a courtyard for 10-15 mins before guide realized we should be next door. We arrived and seemed to get an abbreviated wine tasting (2 wines) when the rest of the groups seemed to be trying more wines and had been there for 15 mins longer. Since we were late another employee had to do the wine tasting while the other groups were finishing up and it was hard to hear anything. This wasn’t a discount tour and we were very disappointed with the entire experience. It seems obvious they booked a guide who was ill equipped to handle the job. I wrote an email to complain that same day and cancel the second tour we had booked through the same company for the next day. I then called the next day, as I never received a reply, and found out the email address on the booking confirmation and website was "the wrong address". I explained the situation that we wanted to cancel the second booking bc of the horrible first tour and we wanted a full refund for the second tour. They refunded us 25% of the first tour and refused to let us cancel and refund the second tour even though we had complained and put in the cancellation the day before to the wrong email address posted on their website and in their confirmation emails. They didn't take accountability for the bad experience. I would not waste my time with this joke of a tour company again.
