RIDING: Beginners are welcome, and advanced riders will appreciate our well-trained horses. Groups with varying skill levels are welcome, and riders with similar experience are grouped together, with each group exploring parts of the trail with their own guide.
Enjoy a variety of tractor routes, mountain climbs, and open areas perfect for a good canter. The mountain areas provide stunning views, so it is recommended to take the 2-hour ride to reach the top of Paarl Mountain for the best view.
Tack is carefully matched to ensure a comfortable ride for both horse and rider. We primarily use McClellan-type trail saddles, but English General Purpose saddles are available upon request. Hard hats are mandatory; feel free to bring your own, although we have a supply in all sizes for those who prefer to travel light.
HORSES: Our horses are a mix of crossbreeds suitable for all terrains and rider levels. They are well-trained, good-natured animals that are considered part of the family. They include South African bred Boerperds, Friesian, Thoroughbred, and Warmblood type crosses, suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. The owner of Wine Valley Adventures has bred most of the horses used on the trails, so each has a full history and stories from their youth among the nearly 300 horses in total. The breeding program focuses on producing sound-minded, attentive, brave horses with good work ethics and excellent rideability.
Occasionally, some of these cherished horses are available for purchase. PS: You might be riding a movie star, as many of our horses regularly participate in movie and photo shoots.
GEAR: Jodhpurs and half or full chaps, along with comfortable riding boots, are recommended. Please bring whatever you usually wear for riding. For those without riding gear, tight long pants and closed shoes with a slight heel will suffice.
WEIGHT LIMIT: For the well-being of our horses and your safety, please be honest about your weight category. We cannot accommodate individuals over 90kg (14 stone / 198 pounds). Horses are categorized as follows: <65 kg; 65 – 75kg; 75 – 90 kg.
AGE LIMIT: 8 – 75 years of age
