Day 1 – Bucharest – Sinaia – Brasov – Sighisoara
Peles Castle - Begin the journey from Bucharest to Sinaia, famously known as “The Pearl of the Carpathians.” This picturesque mountain resort is nestled in the Carpathian mountains at an altitude of 800 meters. Visitors will explore the Sinaia Monastery and Peles Castle, constructed by Romania’s first King, Carol I, as a summer royal residence. The castle is a stunning architectural marvel and was notably the first in Europe to have electric power.
Brasov - From Sinaia, the tour proceeds to Brasov, a historic medieval citadel and the most significant commercial hub among the seven German Medieval Cities (Siebenbuergen). Guests will explore the Old Town (the Historical Centre) and enjoy a delightful lunch.
Sighisoara - Sighisoara, the only inhabited medieval citadel in Europe, is a UNESCO heritage site. It retains its original medieval fortifications and ancient towers.
Day 2 – Sighisoara – Barsana – Sapanta – Sighetu Marmatiei
Maramures County - Maramures is a region where the pristine beauty of nature harmonizes with the charm of ancient villages. Here, locals have preserved their traditions, and intricately carved wood is a common architectural feature.
Barsana Monastery - The wooden Barsana church, built in 1995, is the most iconic among Maramures’ wooden churches. “The Old Barsana” (UNESCO heritage) was relocated using the traditional “Dovetail” technique.
Sapanta-Peri Monastery - The Merry Cemetery is renowned for its unique, carved, and painted crosses, featuring humorous epitaphs that reflect the local spirit and Romanian culture. These artistic works are celebrated both locally and internationally. In the same village, visitors can see the world’s tallest wooden church, Sapanta Peri, standing at 78 meters.
Sighetu Marmatiei - Time permitting, a visit to Romania’s most infamous communist prison in Sighetu Marmatiei may be included.
Sighetu Marmatiei – Ciocanesti – Moldovita – Sucevita – Voronet – Gura Humorului
Moldovita Monastery - Constructed in 1532, Moldovita Monastery was initially a monastery for monks and later became a convent for nuns.
Sucevita Monastery - Sucevita, the largest of all, resembles a formidable fortress more than a monastery. As the last to be adorned with exterior frescoes, it boasts Bucovina’s best-preserved artwork.
Manastirea Voronet - The tour concludes with a visit to the renowned Voronet Convent, often called “The Sixtine Chapel of the Orient.” Built in 1488, Voronet Monastery is a prime example of Moldavian creativity, showcasing a unique style. The church combines Byzantine, Gothic, and local elements. The western wall’s exterior painting uniquely depicts the Doomsday scene across five registers. Voronet Monastery is part of the universal cultural heritage, famed for its distinctive “Voronet blue” in the paintings.
Day 4 – Gura Humorului – Tulcea
Tulcea County - After breakfast, the journey continues to the Danube Delta. This scenic route passes through numerous towns and villages, offering a glimpse of both city and countryside life. A lunch break is included. In the evening, the tour reaches Tulcea, the gateway to the Danube Delta. This city is one of Romania’s oldest settlements, dating back to a Greek colony in the 8th century B.C.
Day 5 – Tulcea – Bucharest
Danube Delta - The day starts with a boat tour through the Danube Delta’s channels (UNESCO heritage). The Danube Delta is Europe’s largest and best-preserved delta, covering 3,446 square kilometers. Participants will admire the delta’s flora, featuring swamp vegetation, and its fauna, including 133 fish species and 327 bird species, both migratory and local. A traditional fish lunch will be served on the boat. The day concludes with a return to Bucharest.
