Highlights
  • East Coast Park - East Coast Park is one of Singapore’s most cherished urban retreats, offering a vibrant mix of sporting, dining, and recreational activities. With the theme “Recreation for All”, the park caters to everyone.

East Coast Park is entirely constructed on reclaimed land and features a man-made beach where swimming is possible. The beach is safeguarded by breakwaters.

The park spans 185 hectares and boasts a picturesque coastline that extends over 15 km, drawing more than seven million visitors annually.

  • Marina Barrage - The Marina Barrage is a dam in Singapore located at the meeting point of five rivers. It serves purposes of water storage, flood control, and recreation. The S$3 billion project transforms Marina Bay and Kallang Basin into a new downtown freshwater Marina Reservoir - the country’s 15th - with a catchment area covering an impressive 10,000 hectares.

The Marina Barrage is crucial in mitigating flooding. During heavy rainfall, nine crest gates open to release excess stormwater into the sea when the tide is low. When the tide is high, seven giant pumps, capable of draining an Olympic-sized swimming pool per minute, activate to discharge water into the sea.

The facility also highlights Singapore’s commitment to sustainability. The Solar Park, for example, houses one of the largest arrays of solar panels in Singapore, with over 400 panels generating electricity for the barrage’s daytime lighting needs.

  • Singapore Indoor Stadium - Beginning at Tanjong Rhu Bridge along Sungei Geylang, the Tanjong Rhu Promenade guides you along the Marina Reservoir’s edge before leading you to its end at Gardens by the Bay (Bay East), where breathtaking views of the Bay South Garden and the Singapore city skyline await. The promenade hosts various sporting and recreational activities, including dragon boating and kayaking at Kallang Basin, as well as kite-flying and football at the open fields along Tanjong Rhu View and Tanjong Rhu Place.
  • Paya Lebar Quarter - Paya Lebar is a neighborhood in Singapore’s Eastern region. Once a vast swampy area near the Kallang River, its name comes from the Malay words “Paya” meaning “swamp” and “Lebar” meaning “wide”. It was once infamous as a squatter district, with many residents working as pig and poultry farmers.

Today, the area features a mix of old heritage buildings and new malls and complexes that have emerged in recent years. The neighborhood is well-served by public bus routes and the Paya Lebar MRT.

  • Marine Parade - Enjoy a local dinner with drinks at Marine Parade Food Centre

We pass the Marina Barrage, then turn around onto the park connector through Tanjong Rhu, Dakota, Paya Lebar, and back to Store Friendly Centre.

Along the way we stop to savor a local dinner with drinks. This might be Katong Laksa, 5-Star Hainanese Chicken Rice or other local delicacies at Marine Parade Food Centre. Singapore is a food paradise and there is definitely something delicious to try for anyone and everyone!

A great way to see a beautiful city! - Mark was an excellent guide who communicated well, calling early to ask whether we wanted a more historical or nature focused route. He is very knowledgeable about Singapore and was able to answer most of our questions. Eventually we managed to stump him on one or two though. When we asked to alter the plan slightly, he was happy to adjust. The bikes are great fun, and have 5 power settings of pedal-assist, though you should probably listen to Mark's advice and use setting 3 for most of the trip, or you might run out of power. Last thing, bring sunscreen! There is a lot of shade on the very scenic route, but also stretches where you'll be in full sun.
