St. Maarten/St. Martin is a unique dual-nation island, with the French part in the north and the Dutch part in the south. It is the only place where France shares a border with the Netherlands!
The border monument, also known as the ‘Concordia Monument,’ was erected in 1948 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Concordia (1648), where the Kingdom of France and the Dutch Republic agreed to peacefully share the island.
Upon passing the monument, you are officially in France: “Bienvenue!”

Located by the sea, the market is ideal for finding souvenirs or gifts for family and friends, offering local products, spices, clothing, jewelry, and more.
