Setting Sail on the “Rum Bum”

Ah, the Caribbean! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of the sun kissing your skin, the salty breeze in your hair, and the promise of adventure on the horizon. When I heard about the Full Day Snorkeling & Beach Excursion in Sint Maarten, I knew it was a must-do. The day began at Bobby’s Marina, just a short stroll from the cruise terminal. As I approached the dock, the anticipation was palpable. The “Rum Bum,” our sleek cigarette speed boat, awaited us with its canopy cover and inviting seats. Captain Miguel and First Mate Chris welcomed us aboard, and soon we were slicing through the waves, the boat occasionally catching air, much to everyone’s delight.

The journey through the lagoon was a visual feast. We passed by remnants of boats, a testament to the hurricanes that had swept through, and even caught a glimpse of the legendary Steve Jobs’ mega-yacht, “Venus.” The thrill of the ride was matched only by the beauty of the island, a perfect blend of excitement and serenity.

Snorkeling Adventures and Turtle Tales

Our first stop was Creole Rock, a snorkeling paradise. The crew provided all the necessary gear, and soon I was submerged in the warm Caribbean waters, surrounded by vibrant fish darting around the coral. The underwater world was mesmerizing, a kaleidoscope of colors and life. After about 45 minutes, we were back on the “Rum Bum,” the drinks flowing and spirits high.

Next up was Tintamarre Island, where the promise of snorkeling with sea turtles awaited. While not everyone was lucky enough to spot these gentle creatures, the sight of them surfacing for air from the boat was magical. The crew kept us on schedule, ensuring we had ample time to soak in each experience without feeling rushed.

Island Hopping and Beach Bliss

Our journey continued to Pinel Island, a slice of paradise with its shallow waters and laid-back vibe. Here, we had the chance to wade ashore, explore, or simply relax in the waist-high water, drink in hand. It was the perfect interlude, a moment to savor the beauty of the Caribbean.

Lunch was a delightful affair at the Rainbow Cafe in Grand Case, where the Mahi-mahi and rice were a culinary highlight. As we continued our island-hopping adventure, we made a quick stop at Mullet Bay, where the energy on the boat was infectious. Dancing, singing, and laughter filled the air as we made our way to Maho Beach, famous for its proximity to the airport. Watching planes land and take off was a thrilling spectacle, even from a safe distance.

As the day drew to a close, we returned to Bobby’s Marina, our hearts full and spirits lifted. The camaraderie on the boat, the stunning sights, and the unforgettable experiences made this excursion a highlight of my Caribbean adventures.
