The mountain range is a mosaic of verdant hills, picturesque valleys and intriguing rock formations that date back to ancient times.

  • Fonte da Sabuga - Fonte da Sabuga, located in São Pedro do Sul, Portugal, offers water rich in minerals such as hydrogen sulfide, calcium and magnesium. This water is known for its therapeutic benefits for skin, respiratory and muscle problems. Visitors often seek out spa treatments and therapeutic baths. It is important to follow professionals’ instructions and, if necessary, consult a doctor before using the hot springs, especially for those with pre-existing medical conditions. Fonte da Sabuga also has a rich history and local traditions associated with it, which adds a cultural element to the visit.
  • Castelo dos Mouros - Welcome to Castelo dos Mouros, a fascinating witness to the past in the enchanting Serra de Sintra. Rising majestically over the hills, this castle dates back to the period of Moorish occupation in Portugal.

According to the author of the work, the fountain was designed to “dignify the most appreciated water in Sintra”. It is a living example of modernist architecture from the 1920s and a mandatory stop on the way to the historic center of Sintra.

The Palácio de Seteais is an architectural masterpiece, with its neoclassical facade and meticulously manicured gardens.

The palace gardens are a true extension of its charm. Stroll along shaded paths, admire flowerbeds and enjoy panoramic views that stretch from the mountains to the Atlantic horizon. The tranquil and serene atmosphere makes Seteais gardens a perfect retreat to relax and absorb the surrounding beauty.

Tivoli Palácio de Seteais is an elegant 5-star hotel located on a hillside in Sintra with privileged views of the Castelo dos Mouros and Palácio da Pena.

It is considered one of the most exotic and impressive palaces in the country. It was built during the 19th century, inspired by the Gothic Revival, Moorish and Indian style, which gives it a unique and picturesque appearance.

The palace was commissioned by Sir Francis Cook, an English businessman, who was delighted with the beauty and climate of the Sintra region. Construction began in 1858 with the collaboration of several architects and landscapers, resulting in an architectural masterpiece.

The gardens surrounding the Palace of Monserrate are equally spectacular, with an impressive diversity of plants and exotic species from all over the world. Tour of Sintra - Jorge was an amazing tour guide and showed us all the popular locations in Sintra. He even listed some sites to visit after the tour and gave excellent suggestions for good places to have dinner. We were shown shortcuts to Pena Palace so we avoided the 30 minute walk up the hill. Jorge also showed us sites as we drove past them and gave us a comprehensive overview of the history which made this experience even more special.

Top Notch Guide! - Our tour guide, Jorge, was absolutely amazing! He was so personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating! I really enjoyed being able to see the town and sights by car, and at the same time, we were able to spend a perfect amount of time walking around the palaces. He gears this tour with a personalized touch. He gives you the flexibility to choose what you want to see and for how long within the given time span allowed in the tour. I highly recommend this tour!

Most comprehensive tour of Sintra. - Comprehensive tour of Sintra with a fun, energetic, and knowledgeable guide named Jorge. He kept the kids and adults engaged while driving through the windy streets. We visited/viewed all 5 palaces and had time for lunch and snacks that were specific to Sintra. This is a must do tour. It is easy to travel to and from Lisbon by train. You will have more time to visit the sites in Sintra on this tour. Skip the tours that provide transportation to and from Lisbon. Train for a family of 5 is about $20.

Not as Advertised - We had a very unique experience and our tour guide provided some really interesting insights into Portuguese culture, history, politics and art. However, our driver was a half an hour late due to traffic and the vehicle was not as advertised: we are there tall people and the comfortable, air conditioned large vehicle which was discussed was not what we received. Given the significant amount we paid, we do not feel the experience aligned with the cost. That said, we gained some really unique and personal insights into Sintra from our jolly, cheerful and friendly driver/guide.
